The quick answer
Compare three records in order: Preview Tax, the saved invoice, and the connected service’s transaction. Use the connector’s configured correlation key, then compare currency, taxable basis, tax amount, and gross total. A matching external transaction supports a transaction-level trace; it does not prove filing or remittance.
The screens use sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional; use your own records and values.
Before you start
Use a configured SuiteTax account and a connected tax-service integration that processes invoices. You need permission to view the invoice, Tax Details, connector state, and external transaction. The example invoice is for Pine Ridge Operations: one equipment support service line with quantity 4 at $735, subtotal $2,940 in USD. The connector mapping and processing status are account-specific. The external-service screen in this recording is a labeled local training simulation, not evidence of a live connector or a real filed tax transaction.
01. Enter the invoice
Create an invoice for Pine Ridge Operations under US Operations, dated 10/01/2026 in USD. Use the taxable service item mapped to the configured tax engine. Confirm the mapped service item, quantity 4, rate $735, and $2,940 subtotal. Check customer, shipping or service address, nexus, and tax point date before calculating.
02. Preview and inspect tax
Click Preview Tax and wait for the engine result. On Tax Details, read each returned row’s type, code, basis, rate, and amount, then reconcile the amounts to the preview tax total. This is a provisional calculation, not a saved invoice or an external connector event. Do not add repeated bases as separate sales.
03. Save and compare the persisted invoice
Save the invoice and reopen its Tax Details. Read invoice number INV-US-401, currency, subtotal $2,940, tax total $235.20, gross total $3,175.20, nexus, tax point date, and the saved tax rows. Compare saved values with the preview; saving can recalculate. Use the saved record as the source for the downstream comparison. Identify the connector’s actual correlation field rather than assuming it is always the visible invoice number.
04. Check the connected transaction
Queued and retrying states are not delivery confirmation. After the connector reaches its configured success state, or a live external record is independently visible, search the connected service using the mapped reference. Compare status, source reference, USD currency, taxable basis, tax amount, and gross total with the saved invoice. The recording’s external-service view, including reference INV-US-401, is a local training simulation of this check. In a real account, verify the connector log and live service record. A match does not establish a filed return, paid liability, or remittance.

Common questions
Is the invoice number always the connector key?
No. The configured mapping may use a transaction number, internal ID, external ID, or custom reference. Check the connector configuration.
What if the external transaction is missing?
Check whether processing is queued, retrying, or failed. Inspect the connector log and search by the configured key before concluding the transfer failed.
Does a matching external amount mean the tax was filed?
No. It supports a match at the transaction level. Filing, payment, and remittance need separate evidence.
