Check purchase-order line history in NetSuite

Use NetSuite purchase-order line History to compare old and new expense amounts, inspect the logged user and date, and verify the current line.

The quick answer

Open the purchase order in view mode, identify the expense line, and select its History link. Compare the logged old and new amounts with the current line, and inspect the recorded date and user.

The screenshots use sample data and fictional person and operating-company names.

Before you start

You need permission to view the purchase order and its available history. Match the exact line by its account, memo, or line number. History and System Notes have different coverage, so a missing entry does not prove that nothing changed. The Notes Tab permission controls access to the line History link. Line History tracks updates to existing lines, not creation or deletion.

01. Identify the expense line

Open PO-7416 from Recent Records. On Expenses, find Office supplies with memo Receiving desk supplies. Its current amount is $1,240.00. Keep the purchase order in view mode.

Identify the Office supplies expense line by its memo and current amount.

02. Read the amount change

Click History on that same line. Find the Amount change and compare Old Value $1,890.00 with New Value $1,240.00. Inspect the September 4, 2026 date/time and recorded user. The decrease is $650.00; the log alone does not explain why it happened.

Line History records the amount changing from $1,890.00 to $1,240.00.

03. Compare with the current record

Close the history window and check that the same expense line still shows $1,240.00. This read-only check needs no Edit or Save. Record the transaction and line reference if you need to ask about the business reason for the change.

The current line matches History’s new value of $1,240.00.

Check the result

  1. The account and memo identify the same expense line.
  2. The logged new amount matches the current $1,240.00.
  3. The history supplies a user and timestamp, without establishing intent.

Common questions

How do I see a purchase-order expense line’s old and new amounts?

Open the purchase order in view mode, identify the exact expense line by account, memo, or line number, and select its History link. Locate the Amount change, then compare the recorded Old Value and New Value with the current line amount.

Can I determine who changed a purchase-order amount?

If line history is available to your role and account configuration, it can show the recorded date, time, and user for an amount change. This identifies the logged action, not the person’s intent or reason, and login history does not prove a transaction edit.

How do I confirm that history belongs to the correct expense line?

Do not match by amount alone. First identify the current line using its expense account, memo, or line position. Open History from that same row, then confirm that the logged new value matches the current amount on that exact line.

Can I investigate a purchase-order change without editing it?

Yes. Open the saved purchase order in view mode, inspect the expense line’s History, compare the old and new values, and close the history window. No edit or save is required. Available history, system notes, and audit coverage can vary by account and permissions.
