The quick answer
Open the existing bill, choose Actions → Memorize, and save a Memorized Transaction Definition with Action set to Reminder. Set its next date and monthly recurrence, then verify the definition and entry queue without processing it.
The screenshots use sample data and fictional person and operating-company names.
Before you start
You need access to the source bill and memorized transactions. Use Reminder when the next amount or date needs review. The definition reuses bill details; it does not copy a payment or schedule a new payment. The bill and role must support memorization.
01. Review the bill to reuse
Open UTIL-6735 from Home → Recent Records. Review Alder Utilities, the $246.80 amount, and the existing Paid In Full status. Select Edit without changing the bill’s data.
02. Choose Memorize
Open Actions → Memorize. Name the definition Monthly water service and choose Reminder as its Action. Automatic creates transactions without the same manual review checkpoint; Template Only has no recurring schedule.
03. Set the monthly recurrence
On Recurring, set Next Date to October 12, 2026 using the account’s date format. Set Repeat Every to 1, Time Period to Month, and choose Indefinite. Leave Override Transaction Date and Allow Posting in Locked Period clear, then save.
04. Reopen the saved definition
Go to Transactions → Management → Enter Memorized Transactions → List. Find Monthly water service and reopen it. Confirm Reminder, the next date, and the retained monthly recurrence.
05. Inspect the queue without processing
Open Enter Memorized Transactions. Use a date range or Show All that includes October 12 and locate the $246.80 reminder. Leave it unselected and do not click Enter or Submit. The procedure ends with a configured reminder, without a new bill.
Check the result
- Action is Reminder, with next date October 12, 2026.
- The interval is one month and recurrence is indefinite.
- The queue was inspected without selecting Enter or Submit.
Common questions
How do I create a monthly vendor-bill reminder?
Edit the existing bill, select Actions → Memorize, name the definition, and choose Reminder. Set the Next Date, Repeat Every value, monthly period, and indefinite recurrence, then save.
What is the difference between Reminder, Automatic, and Template Only?
Reminder places the transaction in the entry queue for review before saving. Automatic creates transactions on schedule without the same manual checkpoint. Template Only stores reusable transaction details but has no recurring schedule.
Does memorizing a paid bill create or pay another bill?
No. Memorizing a bill with Action set to Reminder creates a definition and reusable template without immediately creating another bill. It also does not copy the original payment or schedule a new payment. A reminder must be entered separately, subject to account controls and approval rules.
Why can’t I see a future memorized reminder?
The entry queue may default to the current date or a due-date filter, so a reminder scheduled for a future date, such as October 12, 2026, may be hidden. Use an appropriate date range or Show All.
