The quick answer
On Authorize Employee Commissions, find the employee and eligibility date. Open the individual detail, match the originating transaction and schedule, and compare Calculated Commission, Previously Authorized, Eligible Amount, and the proposed Amount. Select only the reviewed transaction, save the individual authorization, and confirm the process completed and produced a commission transaction. Authorization is separate from payment.
The screenshots use sample data and fictional names. Here, an 8% schedule applied to Jordan Lee's USD 1,250 commission base yields USD 100 because the full amount is eligible and there are no prior authorizations or adjustments.
Before you start
Confirm that the employee has an active commission plan, is credited on the source sale, and has met the schedule's booking, billing, or collection trigger. Use a role allowed to authorize the commission, an open posting period, and the correct commission liability and expense accounts. Account preferences may delay eligibility or require accounting approval after authorization.
01. Find the pending commission
Go to Transactions → Commissions → Authorize Employee Commissions. Set Date Eligible, filter Sales Rep to Jordan Lee, and check the authorization date and posting period. Locate the pending commission and use its Authorize link to inspect the detail. If no row appears, check the plan assignment, sale's rep, schedule trigger, applied collection where relevant, and eligibility delay.
02. Review the calculation
On the commission detail's By Transaction subtab, identify the originating commissionable transaction and schedule. Compare the displayed basis or transaction base amount, Calculated Commission, Previously Authorized, Eligible Amount, and proposed Amount. In the sample, 8% of USD 1,250 equals USD 100. Authorize that amount only if the eligible amount supports it and no portion was already authorized. Collection limits, credits, or adjustments can lower the eligible amount. If the detail is empty or the numbers differ, resolve the discrepancy first.
03. Authorize only the reviewed amount
Select the checked transaction row. Verify the employee, amount, accounts, date, and posting period, then save. If Accounting Approval is available, leave it unselected in this example; the task ends at authorization. Do not include unrelated employees or rows.
04. Check the process and transaction
Open the authorization Status page and wait for Complete. Inspect the processed results for an error, then follow the generated commission transaction and check its number, amount, currency, and status. In this example, COM-0001 shows Pending Accounting Approval. Other accounts may send the commission through Accounts Payable or payroll and show a different status. Process completion and accounting approval do not prove payment.
Common questions
Why is a commission missing from the list?
Check Date Eligible, the employee's plan and transaction assignment, and the schedule's booking, billing, or collection trigger. Also check for an eligibility delay or authorization already in progress.
How do calculated, eligible, and previously authorized amounts differ?
Calculated Commission comes from the schedule; Eligible Amount is the portion available now; Previously Authorized shows what has already been authorized. Check the page context before subtracting values, since view mode may include the current transaction.
Does authorization pay the employee?
No. It creates or advances a commission transaction. Accounting approval and the configured Accounts Payable or payroll payment happen separately.
