The quick answer
Create a transaction body field with Type set to Check Box, apply it to the sales form, then use Screen Fields to move it to Main → Primary Information immediately after Memo. Save the form and reload Sales Order entry to check placement and editability.

Before you start
You need permission to create transaction body fields and customize the intended Sales Order form. A body field describes the whole transaction. Applies To controls transaction categories, Store Value controls storage, and the form controls visibility and placement. Customer Orders is an existing custom Sales Order form available to this user.
01. Check the starting form
Open Sales Order entry and select Customer Orders in Custom Form. Find Memo under Primary Information and confirm Gift packaging requested is not already present.
02. Open a new body field
If available, use Customize → New Body Field. The standard alternative is Customization → Lists, Records, & Fields → Transaction Body Fields → New. Enter label Gift packaging requested, ID custbody_gift_packaging, and description Indicates that gift packaging is requested for this order.
03. Set the checkbox behavior
Set Type to Check Box and retain Store Value. On Applies To, select Sale, which can include sales transactions beyond Sales Orders. Leave the checkbox default unchecked. On Display, leave Subtab blank and retain Normal for this example.
04. Apply it to the chosen form
Choose Save and Apply to Forms from the Save menu. Find Customer Orders, verify Show is selected and display is Normal, then save the form-application settings.
05. Move the field to Main
Return to Sales Order entry and choose Customize → Customize Form. On Screen Fields → Custom, find Gift packaging requested. Choose Move Elements Between Subtabs, set only that field’s destination to Main, and save the move.
06. Place it directly after Memo
On Screen Fields → Main, assign the checkbox to Primary Information and keep Show selected. Confirm Memo is in the same group, then move the checkbox immediately after Memo in the field sequence. Save the form.
07. Check the resulting entry form
Reload Sales Order entry with Customer Orders selected. Gift packaging requested now appears beneath Memo. Check and clear it to confirm it is editable. This layout check saves no Sales Order, so it does not demonstrate a persisted transaction value or packaging automation.
Check the result
- The correct custom form is selected.
- Gift packaging requested appears immediately beneath Memo.
- The checkbox can be checked and cleared; no Sales Order was saved.
Common questions
Why does my custom transaction field appear under Custom?
If you leave the field’s Subtab blank, NetSuite generally places a transaction body field under the Custom subtab. Move it to Main, then assign the appropriate field group.
How do I move a Sales Order checkbox beneath Memo?
Apply the field to the intended custom Sales Order form, then edit that form’s Screen Fields. Move the checkbox from Custom to Main, assign it to Primary Information, and position it immediately after Memo. Save the form and reload the transaction.
What is the difference between Store Value, Applies To, and form visibility?
Store Value determines whether NetSuite saves the checkbox value. Applies To determines transaction categories, such as Sale, which may include more than Sales Orders. Form visibility determines whether users see the field on a particular custom form; these settings are independent.
Does checking the checkbox create fulfillment or packaging automation?
No. The checkbox only records a transaction-level preference when the Sales Order is saved. It does not create fulfillment, packaging, notification, or workflow behavior. Automation requires separate account-specific configuration, such as workflows, scripts, or fulfillment processes, if available.
