The quick answer
Review the Chart of Accounts with inactive accounts included, then create the subaccount only after confirming that its number and purpose aren't already in use. Enter the number, name, parent account, type, subsidiary scope, and Include Children setting, then review the form before saving. Save, find the new chart row, and reopen it to verify the settings.

Before you start
Confirm your role can view and create accounts, and obtain approval for the account number, parent account, account type, subsidiary scope, and Include Children setting. An inactive account may still contain historical activity, so review it before creating a replacement.
01. Check the active accounts first
Go to Setup > Accounting > Chart of Accounts. Review the parent account and nearby account numbers, including 4300 Service Revenue, 4310 Consulting Services, and 4330 Maintenance Services. The displayed list shows three active accounts, and 4325 isn't present in this view.
02. Include inactive accounts in the review
Select Show Inactives and inspect the expanded chart. Inactive accounts can retain historical activity, so an unused-looking number isn't automatically available for reuse. In this example, the additional row is 4320 Legacy Training (Inactive), while 4325 Installation Services still isn't shown.
03. Open a new account form
Select New from the Chart of Accounts page. The blank Account form includes fields for the account number, name, parent account, type, subsidiaries, and Include Children. Use your organization's numbering policy and approved accounting design rather than treating an available number as approval.
04. Enter the account details
Enter 4325 in Number and Installation Services in Name. Set Subaccount of to 4300 Service Revenue and confirm that Type is Income. The values shown are example values; use the approved number, name, parent, and type for your account.
05. Verify the saved account and subsidiary scope
Review Subsidiaries and Include Children for the intended scope, then save. Find the new account in the chart and reopen it to verify the settings. The example retains 4325 Installation Services under 4300 Service Revenue, with Income type and the chosen subsidiary scope. Leave the reopened record unchanged.

- The account form displays Number 4325, Name Installation Services, Subaccount of 4300 Service Revenue, and Type Income.
- The required Subsidiaries field and Include Children setting have been reviewed against the approved organizational scope before saving.
Common questions
Should I check inactive accounts before creating a new GL account?
Yes. In Setup > Accounting > Chart of Accounts, enable Show Inactives and check the proposed name and number. Inactive accounts may retain historical activity, so review whether an existing account should be reused or reactivated under your organization’s accounting policy.
How do I create an income subaccount in NetSuite?
Create a new account, enter the approved number and name, select the compatible Subaccount of parent, and confirm Type = Income before saving. Account numbers, required fields, available parents, and permissions vary by account configuration.
What should I review for a OneWorld account?
Review the permitted Subsidiaries and Include Children settings. These fields apply to OneWorld accounts and determine where the account is available; the correct selection depends on your organization’s reporting structure and accounting policy.
Does creating an income subaccount create a revenue transaction?
No. Saving the account creates chart-of-accounts master data only. Revenue is posted later when a transaction uses the account, subject to the account’s configuration and transaction rules.
