The quick answer
Import the bank statement, select the bank account on Match Bank Data, and pair the bank line with the corresponding bill payment. Compare the date, reference, and amount before matching. Review the saved match, then complete account reconciliation separately.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.
Before you start
You need access to bank-data import and the Reconcile permission, a supported statement file, and a saved vendor payment in the intended bank account. The recording creates a sample bill and payment first. Use your existing payable and payment rather than entering duplicates.
01. Check the vendor bill form
The demonstration starts by entering a vendor bill. Review the vendor, reference, line amount, and required classifications, then save it. If the bill already exists, inspect that record instead.
02. Check the bill payment details
From the saved bill, create the bill payment. Confirm the payee, bank Account, date, amount, and applied bill before saving. The example uses 1000 Checking and applies 100.00 to one bill.
03. Open bank matching
Go to Transactions > Bank > Bank Matching and Reconciliation > Match Bank Data. Check that you’re working with the bank account used for the payment.
04. Import the statement file
Select Upload File and choose the statement file. Use the parser appropriate to its format and select the same bank account as the payment. The example uploads a CSV using the default parser for 1000 Checking. Select Import after checking those choices.
05. Compare the selected bank line and payment
Back on Match Bank Data, select the bank line and its corresponding bill payment. This sample pairs a June 30 bank line with a July 10 payment for the same 100.00 amount. Investigate that date difference before treating it as a valid match in your own account. A zero selection difference only establishes that the amounts balance.
06. Review the matched payment
When you’ve verified the pair, select Match and open Review. Locate the payment and inspect View Details. The example marks payment 28 as Matched; this is the end of the demonstration, before full account reconciliation.
Check the result
- The statement file was imported into the intended bank account.
- The selected pair represents the same payment, including an explained date or reference difference.
- The matched transaction appears in Review; account reconciliation remains a separate step.
Common questions
How do I prepare the vendor bill payment before importing the bank statement?
Create and save the vendor bill, then create a Bill Payment from it. Confirm the vendor, payment account, date, amount, and applied bill; account-specific approval, payment-hold, subsidiary, currency, and accounting-period rules may affect whether the payment can be saved or applied.
How do I import a bank statement line into NetSuite?
Open the bank-data matching page, select Upload File, choose a supported parser or import option, upload the statement, and select the same bank account used by the bill payment. Available file formats, parsers, account selectors, and import permissions depend on the account configuration.
How do I match the imported line to the vendor bill payment?
Select the imported bank line and the corresponding NetSuite Bill Payment, then compare the transaction number, date, amount, account, and reference before choosing Match. The imported bank line and payment remain separate entries; matching associates them but does not complete the full bank reconciliation.
Does matching confirm reconciliation or bank settlement?
No. A match confirms that the imported bank activity is associated with a NetSuite payment; it does not prove that funds settled externally, that the account reconciles to a zero difference, or that the reconciliation was submitted. Account-specific interfaces may use separate, combined, or automatic submission actions.
