The quick answer
Open an approved Sales Order and choose Fulfill. On the first Item Fulfillment, select only the line and quantity to ship from an allowed source location, clear other lines, set the operational status, and save. Return to the same order and create a second fulfillment for the next quantity and eligible location. Open both saved records and compare their quantities and locations with the Sales Order’s remaining lines.
One order can have two distinct fulfillment records. In this synthetic example, SO-7100 has 5 Field-service kits and 4 Filter packs. The walkthrough saves 2 kits from North Warehouse, then 1 from South Warehouse, leaving 2 kits and all 4 filter packs open. These are sample item names and quantities. The screenshots use fictional person and operating-company names; account settings, source permissions, item type, and stock can change the available workflow.
Before you start
The Sales Order must be approved if your workflow requires it, and the selected lines must be fulfillable. Your role needs Sales Order, fulfillment, and both location permissions. Verify whether Ship Complete is disabled or intentionally restricts a partial shipment; commitments, allocations, line sourcing, and available stock also matter. Multi-Location Inventory alone does not make every source eligible. If the second warehouse is unavailable, resolve the order’s sourcing or commitment rule before another save.
The item name “Field-service kit” does not establish its NetSuite item type. If it is a kit/package item, member-component availability, location, commitment, and inventory detail can constrain partial fulfillment; verify those lines rather than assuming the parent quantity alone is enough. Lot, serial, or bin requirements may also apply. This example saves both records as Shipped. If your account uses Pick Pack Ship, Picked or Packed saves have a different meaning. With Advanced Shipping, fulfillment and invoicing are separate. The source warehouse and customer ship-to address serve different purposes; changing one does not change the other.
01. Inspect the Sales Order
Open the intended order and confirm the customer, items, ordered quantities, previously fulfilled amounts, and Fulfill action. SO-7100 begins Pending Fulfillment with five kits and four filter packs still open. The status is useful context, but the line quantities tell you what is available to ship.
02. Ship the first part from North Warehouse
Choose Fulfill if that action is available. If your account first shows a route or fulfillment selection, choose the route for this shipment. On the Items area, select the kit line, set Quantity 2 only if the form permits it and any required components are available, and verify its Location North Warehouse. Clear Fulfill for the Filter pack. Its displayed quantity can remain on an unselected row; the unchecked Fulfill box excludes that row. The example form labels the open kit amount Remaining 5; confirm the available quantity on your form.
Complete required component, lot, serial, bin, or other inventory detail if prompted. Review the shipping address and method, set the actual status according to your process, and save. This sample uses Shipped. The saved IF-7101 links to SO-7100 and displays 2 kits associated with North Warehouse. Your transaction number and location presentation may differ. Return through Created From to the same Sales Order and check its current line quantities; the sample has three kits remaining and four filter packs untouched.
03. Ship the next part from South Warehouse
Reopen SO-7100 and use its next available fulfillment action. The example form labels the open kit amount Remaining 3; verify the current quantity on your form. Select only 1 kit from South Warehouse if the order line, component stock, commitments, and role permit that source. Merely changing a location dropdown cannot override a fixed line source. Clear the Filter pack again and leave the other two kits open. Check required inventory detail, the customer ship-to address and method, and the operational status before saving.
The second save creates a separate Shipped Item Fulfillment linked to the same Sales Order, labeled IF-7101-2 in this sample. Its line displays 1 kit at South Warehouse. Verify the source at the body, line, component, or inventory-detail level used by your form. A different source warehouse did not automatically change the customer’s destination.
04. Reconcile the two saved records
Return to SO-7100 and open Related Records. It lists two Shipped records in the sample, IF-7101 and IF-7101-2. Open each to check kit and, when applicable, component quantities, warehouse source, ship-to address, method, and status. On the sample order line, 5 ordered = 3 fulfilled + 2 remaining kits, and the four Filter packs have no fulfilled quantity. Confirm no other fulfillment, edit, allocation, or return changed the order.
Check the result
- Separate records: two Item Fulfillment numbers link to the same Sales Order.
- Sources: two kits came from North Warehouse and one from South Warehouse.
- Open quantity: check two kits and all four Filter packs remaining on the order, assuming no other transaction changed it.
- Stage: confirm whether each record is Picked, Packed, or Shipped in your workflow.
If the account allows direct Shipped saves, that status records the fulfillment in this workflow. It does not by itself prove carrier handoff, delivery, or an invoice.
Common questions
Can one Sales Order have more than one partial Item Fulfillment?
Yes, if the account and order allow separate partial shipments. Save each selected quantity as its own fulfillment, then compare both records with the order’s current fulfilled and remaining lines.
Why is the second warehouse unavailable?
Check the order line’s sourcing, commitment or allocation, stock at that location, and your role’s access. A location dropdown alone cannot make a warehouse an eligible source. The source warehouse is separate from the customer ship-to address.
How do I leave another item unfulfilled?
Clear that line’s Fulfill checkbox on every partial fulfillment and verify the saved item lines. In the sample, the four Filter packs stay open after both kit shipments.
Why does the Sales Order still have open quantities?
Only three of the five sample kits were saved on Shipped fulfillments, so two remain; the Filter packs were never selected. Recheck the order lines and both saved records if another transaction, edit, or commitment changed the numbers.
What if the item named Field-service kit is a Kit/Package?
Check member-component availability, sourcing, and required inventory detail before assuming the parent quantity can ship. Ship Complete and Pick Pack Ship settings can restrict partial quantities or change whether the record is Picked, Packed, or Shipped.
