Print a Master Bill of Lading in NetSuite

Use the Bill of Lading SuiteApp to print one master BOL for several item fulfillments, include already-printed fulfillments, and read how the master totals packages and combines freight lines.

The quick answer

Install the free Bill of Lading SuiteApp, fill in the freight fields it adds to your item fulfillments (Item Weight, FAK Class, NMFC No. and Handling Unit Qty on each line), then go to Transactions > Sales > Bill of Lading. On Print Bill of Lading, choose the customer or location and click Search. Check Include Printed Items if a fulfillment already has a BOL, because printed ones are left out otherwise. Under Print Options, choose Format Master BOL, select the fulfillments that ship together and click Print. With the standard master template, the BOL lists each fulfillment with its packages and weight, adds a Grand Total, and combines freight lines that share a commodity, NMFC number and class.

The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

The Bill of Lading SuiteApp is a free NetSuite bundle. An administrator installs it from Customization > SuiteBundler > Search & Install Bundles. It adds Bill of Lading Templates, Bill of Lading and Bill of Lading Preferences at the bottom of Transactions > Sales. To print, you need a role that can open the Print Bill of Lading page, item fulfillments and their sales orders. Custom roles may need extra setup. Bill of Lading Preferences controls some of what the print page shows.

A master BOL groups fulfillments that share the same customer, ship-from location, shipping address and shipping method. If any of those differ, NetSuite prints separate master BOLs, so check each fulfillment's Shipping subtab before you select them together.

In this example, Harlow Farm Cooperative has two orders, SO6310 and SO6312, fulfilled on 09/28/2026 as IF5102 and IF5103 from Sacramento Warehouse. A standalone BOL was already printed for each. Both go to the same address on the same truck, and the carrier wants one master BOL.

01. Confirm the SuiteApp is installed

Go to Customization > SuiteBundler > Search & Install Bundles > List. Installed Bundles lists Bill of Lading, Bundle ID 312584, version 1.02.2, with a check mark in Status.

The Bill of Lading SuiteApp is installed.

02. Check the freight fields on the first fulfillment

Open IF5102. It's Shipped, dated 09/28/2026, Created From Sales Order #SO6310. The SuiteApp adds Total Weight in lb (Override) and Total Weight (Calculated) to the header, both 188 here, plus Standalone BoL Notes and PRO Number.

IF5102 weighs 188 lb.

On the Items subtab, each line carries its freight data. Total Item Weight is Item Weight times quantity: 2 poly pipe coils at 38 is 76, 4 brass gate valve cases at 22 is 88, and 1 sprinkler head case is 24. FAK Class is 85, 70 and 92.5, NMFC No. is 156600, 110420 and 150390, and Handling Unit Qty is 2, 4 and 1.

Each line has its weight, class, NMFC No. and handling units.

Your fulfillment form has to show these fields, and a custom form can hide them. Fill them in before you print. The BOL prints the override weight when one is entered.

03. Check the second fulfillment

Open IF5103. It's Shipped, dated 09/28/2026, Created From Sales Order #SO6312, and weighs 106 lb. It has the same three items: 1 coil (38), 2 valve cases (44) and 1 sprinkler head case (24), with Handling Unit Qty 1, 2 and 1. This sprinkler line is FAK Class 100, not 92.5.

Same items, but this sprinkler line is class 100.

04. Search the customer's fulfillments

Go to Transactions > Sales > Bill of Lading. The Print Bill of Lading page opens with Transaction Type Sales Order, Include Printed Items cleared and Format Both. For a sales order search you need a customer or a location. Choose Harlow Farm Cooperative in Customer and click Search.

Search by customer, with Include Printed Items cleared.

Item Fulfillments lists only IF5107 and IF5109. IF5102 and IF5103 are missing because a BOL was already printed for each, and printed fulfillments are left out of the search.

IF5102 and IF5103 aren't listed.

05. Include the printed fulfillments

Check Include Printed Items and click Search again. Item Fulfillments now shows 1-4 of 4: IF5102, IF5103, IF5107 and IF5109.

Check Include Printed Items to get printed fulfillments back.

Under Print Options, choose Format Master BOL. Leave Master BOL at BoL Master Template and Total Weight Units On Master BOL at Pounds (lb). Check Select on IF5102 and IF5103 and click Print. Only checked rows print, so IF5107 and IF5109 stay off this BOL.

Master BOL, with IF5102 and IF5103 selected.

Standalone BOL prints one BOL per fulfillment, and Both puts the master first with the standalones behind it. Check Save To File Cabinet if you want a copy stored, and use Master BOL Notes for a note on the master.

07. Read the header and order totals

The PDF is titled BILL OF LADING - NOT NEGOTIABLE, with Bill of Lading Number MASTERBOL021. Ship From is Sacramento Warehouse and Ship To is Harlow Farm Cooperative. The Master Bill of Lading with associated BoLs box is checked.

MASTERBOL021, from Sacramento Warehouse to Harlow Farm Cooperative.

Customer Order Information has one row per fulfillment. # PKGS is the sum of the fulfillment's Handling Unit Qty, so IF5102 is 7 (2 + 4 + 1) at 188.000 lb and IF5103 is 4 at 106.000 lb. The Grand Total is 11 packages and 294.000 lb.

7 + 4 packages and 188 + 106 lb.

08. Check how the carrier lines combined

Carrier Information has four lines instead of six. With the standard BoL Master Template, lines with the same commodity, NMFC No. and class were combined across both fulfillments: 3 poly pipe coils at 114.000 lb (76 + 38) and 6 brass gate valve cases at 132.000 lb (88 + 44). The sprinkler head cases share NMFC No. 150390 but not their class, so they stay on two lines, class 92.5 and class 100, at 24.000 lb each.

Matching lines combine. The sprinkler heads split because their classes differ.

Check the result

  1. The master BOL lists every fulfillment you selected in Customer Order Information.
  2. # PKGS for each fulfillment equals the sum of its Handling Unit Qty, and the weights match each fulfillment's BOL weight.
  3. The Grand Total adds up the fulfillment rows.
  4. Carrier Information combines lines only where commodity, NMFC No. and class all match.

If two lines you expected to combine are listed separately, compare their class and NMFC No. on the fulfillments and fix the data there. Editing the master template changes how the BOL looks, not how lines are grouped.

Common questions

Why doesn't my item fulfillment show up on the Print Bill of Lading search?

Usually because it's already been printed. Printing a BOL marks the fulfillment as printed, and Search leaves printed fulfillments out unless Include Printed Items is checked. Also check that you chose the right Transaction Type and a customer or location that matches the fulfillment.

How do I reprint a bill of lading?

Check Include Printed Items on Print Bill of Lading, search again, select the fulfillment and print. That's also how already-printed fulfillments get onto a master BOL, which is what this example does. The fulfillment itself has a Print BOL button too.

What's the difference between a standalone BOL and a master BOL?

A standalone BOL covers one fulfillment. A master BOL covers several fulfillments that leave together, lists each one with its packages and weight, and summarizes the freight. Format Both prints the master first with the standalones behind it.

Where do I enter FAK class, NMFC number and handling units?

On each line of the item fulfillment's Items subtab, in the fields the SuiteApp adds: Item Weight, FAK Class, NMFC No. and Handling Unit Qty. Total Item Weight and Total Weight (Calculated) work themselves out from Item Weight and quantity. Type a value in Total Weight in lb (Override) if the BOL should print a different total.

Why are two lines for the same item listed separately on my master BOL?

Their class or NMFC number differs. Carrier Information combines lines only when commodity, NMFC No. and class all match. Here the sprinkler head cases share NMFC No. 150390 but one is class 92.5 and the other class 100, so they print on two lines. Fix the class on the fulfillment if it's wrong.

Why did my selected fulfillments print on two different master BOLs?

A master BOL only groups fulfillments with the same customer, ship-from location, shipping address and shipping method. If any of those differ, NetSuite prints a separate master for each group. Compare the Shipping subtabs of the fulfillments you selected.
