The quick answer
Go to Transactions > Bank > Reconcile Credit Card Statement, pick the card account, and enter the Statement Date and Ending Statement Balance from the issuer's statement. Check Reconcile on every charge, payment, and credit that appears on the statement. When Difference reaches 0.00, click Save. That ending balance becomes the Last Reconciled Balance for the next statement.
The card account is a liability, and the issuer's statement is the only outside proof of what you owe. This example records two April purchases on a company card, 318.20 for office supplies and 94.65 for a software subscription, then reconciles the card to an April statement that ends at 412.85. The person and company names in the screenshots are fictional example data.
Before you start
You need a Credit Card type account, an open posting period, and a role that can enter card charges and reconcile statements. The example uses one subsidiary, US dollars, and a card account with no earlier activity, so its Last Reconciled Balance starts at 0.00. The statement has no payments, refunds, fees, or interest.
If the card carried a balance before you started using NetSuite, that opening balance has to be recorded and supported first; your first reconciliation won't start at zero. And check that a purchase isn't already in NetSuite through a bill, an expense report, a bank feed, or an import before you enter it as a charge. Entering it twice doubles both the liability and the expense.
Reconcile Credit Card Statement is the legacy page. It shows a Deprecated banner and appears only for card accounts that don't use Match Bank Data and Reconcile Account Statement. If your account is on that newer process, use it instead. Don't switch an account between the two just to finish one reconciliation.
01. Record the card charges
Go to Transactions > Bank > Issue Credit Card Charge (some accounts label it Use Credit Card) and keep Charge selected. On the form shown here, the Account list stays empty until you choose a Subsidiary, then lists the credit card accounts available to it. On other forms the vendor may fill in the subsidiary for you. Then pick 2180 Company Card - Operations, the vendor Northgate Office Supply, the purchase date 04/07/2026, and enter 318.20 in Amount.
On Expenses & Items > Expenses, add a line with the Office Supplies expense account and 318.20. The Expenses total should match the header Amount before you save.
Click Save, then open GL Impact on the saved charge. It credits the card account and debits the expense.
Repeat for Brightline Software, 04/21/2026, 94.65, on the Software Subscriptions expense account. The card now carries 412.85 of April charges.
02. Enter the statement
Go to Transactions > Bank > Reconcile Credit Card Statement. Select 2180 Company Card - Operations in Account and check the Subsidiary it shows. Enter 04/30/2026 in Statement Date and 412.85 in Ending Statement Balance. Start Date is optional and only narrows the list; leave it blank on a first reconciliation.
Nothing is marked yet, so Reconciled This Statement is 0.00 and Difference is the full 412.85.
The page works the Difference out like this: Ending Statement Balance minus (Last Reconciled Balance plus Reconciled This Statement). Charges you mark add to Reconciled This Statement; payments and credits reduce it.
03. Mark the charges on the statement
Look at Payments and Credits first. It's empty here because the statement has no payment or refund. Then open Charges and Cash Advances, where both April charges are listed.
Check Reconcile on the 318.20 charge. Reconciled This Statement becomes 318.20 and Difference drops to 94.65.
Check Reconcile on the 94.65 charge. Reconciled This Statement is now 412.85 and Difference is 0.00.
To see what a mismatch looks like, change Ending Statement Balance to 400.00 and tab out. Difference becomes -12.85: you've marked 12.85 more than the statement says you owe. Put 412.85 back and the Difference returns to 0.00.
A zero Difference proves the marked items add up to the balance you typed. It doesn't prove you marked the right items, so compare each line with the statement. Marking an item to reconcile also marks it cleared when you save.
Real statements usually have more than charges. A card payment or a vendor refund belongs on Payments and Credits and reduces the reconciled total. Interest or a fee that isn't in NetSuite yet can go on New Charges, and a credit on New Credits, but only for items you haven't already entered. If the Difference won't close, look for the missing, duplicated, or misdated transaction instead of changing the statement balance.
04. Save the reconciliation
With Difference at 0.00, click Save. In this walkthrough NetSuite returns to the Transactions page with a confirmation; the landing page can differ by account and release. If the Difference isn't zero and you need to dig in, Complete Later keeps the unfinished work without completing the reconciliation. Lines entered on New Charges or New Credits are created as real transactions either way.
05. Check the saved result
Reopen Reconcile Credit Card Statement for the same account and 04/30/2026. The saved Ending Statement Balance of 412.85 fills in, and both charges show Cleared as Yes. Review it only; editing a saved reconciliation needs your own correction process.
Change Statement Date to 05/31/2026. Last Reconciled Balance now shows 412.85 and the two reconciled charges are no longer listed. May's reconciliation starts from that balance. Charges that are still unreconciled and dated on or before 05/31 stay on the list, subject to the account and any Start Date you enter.
Common questions
Why isn't the Difference zero when I open the page?
Because nothing is marked yet. Difference is the Ending Statement Balance minus the sum of Last Reconciled Balance and Reconciled This Statement, so with a 412.85 statement and nothing marked it's 412.85. Marking the 318.20 charge takes it to 94.65, and marking the 94.65 charge takes it to 0.00.
What does a negative Difference mean?
You've marked more than the statement says you owe. With both charges marked and a 400.00 ending balance, the Difference is -12.85. Recheck the balance you typed, then look for an extra, duplicated, or misdated transaction.
What's the difference between Save and Complete Later?
Save completes the reconciliation, and its ending balance becomes the next statement's starting point. Complete Later keeps your marks so you can come back, but the statement isn't reconciled yet. Anything entered on New Charges or New Credits is created as a transaction with either button.
Should I use New Charges or enter the charge first?
Either works for an item that isn't in NetSuite yet. A charge entered with Issue Credit Card Charge shows up on Charges and Cash Advances for you to mark; New Charges creates the transaction from the reconciliation page itself. Don't do both for the same purchase, or you'll record it twice.
How do card payments affect the reconciliation?
A payment to the card issuer debits the card account and appears on Payments and Credits. Marking it reduces Reconciled This Statement, the opposite of a charge. This example's statement had no payment, so that subtab stayed empty.
Why does the page say Deprecated?
Reconcile Credit Card Statement is the original reconciliation page. The current process is Match Bank Data followed by Reconcile Account Statement, which this guide doesn't cover. The legacy page is only offered for card accounts that aren't set up for the newer process.
Does a zero Difference mean the reconciliation is right?
No. It means the items you marked add up to the balance you typed. You still have to compare each marked line, and every payment, refund, fee, and interest charge, with the statement.
