Split a NetSuite timesheet entry without adding hours

Split a saved NetSuite timesheet entry into two activities with separate memos. Preserve its project context and verify daily and weekly totals.

The quick answer

Duplicate the existing timesheet line, replace both durations and memos, then save. Compare the daily and weekly totals so the split explains the work without increasing recorded hours.

The screenshots show a recorded demonstration with sample data. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

Start with your own editable saved week and a form that supports Duplicate. Keep the work context and billing dimensions on both lines. The example uses hours and minutes: 7:30 means seven hours thirty minutes, not 7.30 decimal hours.

01. Read the original day and memo

On Morgan Ellis’s saved week of September 6, 2026, find Alder Retail : Customer onboarding. Monday and weekly totals are 7:30. Open Monday’s memo and read Customer onboarding work, then close it.

The original Monday entry has 7:30 and one general memo.

02. Duplicate the existing line

Click Edit, select Monday’s 7:30 cell and choose Duplicate below the grid. The copy initially repeats the duration, so change both lines before saving. Keep the project, case, service item, Billable and classification context.

Duplicate reuses the existing line’s work context.

03. Replace durations and explain the work

Set the first Monday duration to 3:00 with memo Discovery workshop. Set the second to 4:30 with memo Configuration review. Close each memo popover to accept its text. Confirm the combined duration is 7:30 before Save.

The two activities divide the original duration into 3:00 and 4:30.

04. Save the split entries

Save and read the confirmation. Inspect the two Monday entries, 3:00 and 4:30. Saving is separate from submitting, approving, paying or billing the time.

The saved timesheet retains the two rows with 3:00 and 4:30 on Monday.

05. Verify both retained memos

Open each Monday memo in turn. Confirm Discovery workshop on the first line and Configuration review on the second. Close the first popover before opening the next.

The second saved entry retains Configuration review.

06. Compare daily and weekly totals

Close the memo and leave both rows visible. Monday and weekly totals remain 7:30 because 3:00 + 4:30 = 7:30. The Billable flags identify intended billing treatment; they have not created an invoice.

Both saved activities retain the original 7:30 daily and weekly totals.

Check the result

  1. The two Monday durations are 3:00 and 4:30.
  2. Each line retains its specific work memo and original context.
  3. Daily and weekly totals remain 7:30.

Common questions

How do I split a saved timesheet entry without adding hours?

Edit the saved line, duplicate it, and change the two durations so they add up to the original. For example, replace 7:30 with 3:00 for Discovery workshop and 4:30 for Configuration review, then confirm the daily and weekly totals still show 7:30.

What does 7:30 mean in a timesheet duration field?

It means seven hours and thirty minutes, not 7.30 decimal hours. The two replacement entries should therefore total 7:30: 3:00 + 4:30.

What should I copy to both activities?

Keep the customer or project, case or task, service item, billable setting, and classifications unchanged unless the work belongs to different values. Replace each line’s memo with a clear description of that activity.

Does saving billable time create an invoice?

No. Billable marks the time as intended for a billing process; it does not create an invoice by itself. Saving is also separate from submitting, approving, paying, or billing the time, and the available actions depend on your account’s timesheet features, form, and permissions.
