Change a NetSuite dashboard KPI date range

Change the Expenses KPI to This Week in NetSuite while keeping its comparison range. Check the refreshed amounts and interpret the two periods.

The quick answer

Open the KPI portlet’s Set Up menu, change the indicator’s Range, and save. Read the new amount together with its period; Compare Range is a separate setting.

The screenshots show a recorded demonstration with sample data. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

Use a role with the Key Performance Indicators portlet and access to its setup. The example changes only Expenses. Date boundaries and available indicators follow your reporting context.

01. Read the existing comparison

On Home, find Expenses in Key Performance Indicators. It shows This Month against Last Month to Date: 36,400 current, 28,000 previous and +30.0%. Keep those period labels with the amounts.

Expenses initially compares 36,400 for This Month with 28,000 for Last Month to Date.

02. Open the KPI settings

Open the portlet menu and choose Set Up. Locate Expenses on the Key Performance Indicators tab. Cached Data is clear in this immediate-refresh example.

The setup lists separate Range and Compare Range controls.

03. Choose the weekly range

In the Expenses row, select This Week in Range. Keep Compare selected and Compare Range at Last Month to Date. Leave the other KPI rows as they are, then Save.

Only the Expenses current Range changes to This Week.

04. Interpret the changed amount

Wait for the saved portlet to reload. Expenses now shows This Week, current 9,400, previous 28,000 and −66.4%. The previous period stayed the same. Comparing a week with a month-to-date window does not establish that spending improved.

The current value is 9,400 for a shorter window; the comparison remains 28,000.

Check the result

  1. Expenses uses This Week and retains Last Month to Date for comparison.
  2. Other indicator periods are unchanged.
  3. The lower current amount is read as a different period, not a transaction change.

Common questions

How do I change the Expenses KPI from This Month to This Week?

On the Home dashboard, open the Key Performance Indicators portlet menu and select Set Up. In the Expenses row, change Range to This Week, leave the comparison settings as needed, and select Save.

Why did the Expenses amount change after I changed the date range?

The KPI now summarizes a different reporting window. Changing Range changes the period included in the current amount; it does not edit expense transactions. The amount shown depends on your role, subsidiary, reporting calendar, and other account settings.

Are Range and Compare Range independent?

Yes. Range controls the current KPI amount, while Compare Range controls the amount used for comparison. Changing Expenses to This Week does not change a Compare Range such as Last Month to Date unless you edit that setting too.

Does a lower Expenses KPI mean spending improved?

No. A lower value may simply result from using a shorter period, such as This Week instead of This Month. Compare like-for-like periods when evaluating performance, and allow for cached data if the portlet does not refresh immediately.
