Show a consolidated NetSuite Balance Sheet by subsidiary

Show a NetSuite OneWorld Balance Sheet by subsidiary. Select consolidated context, inspect exchange rates and read the child contribution in parent currency.

The quick answer

Choose the parent’s consolidated Subsidiary Context and set Column to Subsidiary, then refresh the Balance Sheet. Read each subsidiary’s contribution and the total in the parent reporting currency.

The screenshots show a recorded demonstration with sample data. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

This example uses OneWorld, a parent and child with different base currencies, and access to the financial report and consolidated exchange rates. Use the same reporting period throughout. The amounts are illustrative and do not reproduce a full consolidation or elimination analysis.

01. Read the parent-only balances

Open Reports → Financial → Balance Sheet. Set As of to Sep 2026, Subsidiary Context to Cedar Harbor Parent (USD), and Column to Total. Refresh. Parent Cash is $10,000 and Total Assets is $15,000.

The parent-only report shows $10,000 Cash and $15,000 Total Assets.

02. Inspect the consolidated rate pair

Open Lists → Accounting → Consolidated Exchange Rates. Filter Sep 2026, From Cedar Harbor Canada, To Cedar Harbor Parent. The row shows Current 0.75, Average 0.74 and Historical 0.73. Inspect it without Calculate or Edit.

Consolidated rates belong to a period and subsidiary pair.

03. Change the reporting scope and columns

Return to the Balance Sheet and keep Sep 2026. Expand Filters if needed. Choose Cedar Harbor Parent (Consolidated), set Column to Subsidiary, then click Refresh. A changed selection needs the refresh before interpreting the displayed amounts.

Select the consolidated parent context and Subsidiary columns.

04. Compare contributions in parent currency

Read the parent, Canada and Total columns. Cash is $10,000 + $6,000 = $16,000. Total Assets is $15,000 + $9,000 = $24,000. The child column is translated into parent USD, not native CAD.

The consolidated report separates subsidiary contributions and shows $24,000 Total Assets.

Check the result

  1. The period is unchanged and the context is consolidated.
  2. Both subsidiary columns and Total are visible.
  3. All displayed contributions are interpreted in parent USD.

Common questions

Why is the parent-only Balance Sheet different from the consolidated total?

A parent-only report includes only the selected parent subsidiary. A consolidated report includes the parent and its child subsidiaries, translated into the parent’s reporting currency. Eliminations and cumulative translation adjustments may also affect the consolidated result.

How do I show a consolidated Balance Sheet by subsidiary?

In a OneWorld account, open Reports > Financial > Balance Sheet. Set Subsidiary Context to the parent with (Consolidated), set Column to Subsidiary, confirm the reporting period, and refresh the report. This displays each included subsidiary and a total.

Are the subsidiary columns shown in each subsidiary’s native currency?

No. Consolidated subsidiary columns use the parent subsidiary’s reporting currency. A child’s amount is translated using the applicable consolidated exchange rate, so it should not be read as the child’s native-currency balance.

How are consolidated exchange rates different from transaction exchange rates?

Transaction exchange rates are effective-date rates used on transactions. Consolidated exchange rates apply to a reporting period and a specific from-subsidiary/to-subsidiary pair when translating balances for consolidated reporting. The account’s General Rate Type determines whether NetSuite uses Current, Average, or Historical rates.
