The quick answer
Start with the saved invoice’s Tax Details and document number. Find that number in Standard Tax Report’s Generic Tax Report Detail, where each tax component has its own row. Sum the component Tax Amounts, not repeated Tax Basis. Then generate Sales Tax Analysis for the matching subsidiary and date range and compare its invoice-level Tax measure. Check date, tax point date, currency, book, and report filters before diagnosing a difference.

Before you start
The account needs SuiteTax, a saved posting invoice, Standard Tax Report access, and the US Sales Tax Reports SuiteApp for the workbook. The SuiteApp and role must expose the required SuiteAnalytics workbook and tax report; prerequisite features and SuiteApps vary by account. The example is invoice INV-RPT-104 for Pine Ridge Services under US Trading, dated October 1, 2026 in USD. It has one $1,000 taxable item and stored tax components of $62.50, $10.00, and $10.00, total $82.50. These are illustrative configured values, not prescribed Texas rates.
01. Check the saved invoice
Open INV-RPT-104 and confirm the customer, subsidiary, date, currency, posting status, and final save. In Tax Details, one item reference has three rows. Their Tax Amounts—$62.50, $10.00, and $10.00—sum to Tax Total $82.50. Each can repeat the $1,000 tax basis; that is not $3,000 in sales.
02. Find the Standard Tax Report detail
Go to Reports > Tax > Standard Tax Report. Select Generic Tax Report Detail if available. Set the available Date and Tax Point Date filters to include October 1, 2026, choose US Trading, and inspect any nexus filter. Find document INV-RPT-104. In this prepared configuration, read its tax type, code, basis, rate, and amount across three component rows; other accounts can return a different row count. Sum amounts to $82.50 without adding repeated bases.
03. Generate Sales Tax Analysis
Go to Reports > Tax > US Tax Reports and choose Sales Tax Analysis. Select US Trading and a date range including October 1, 2026. Leave Filing Partner unselected in this example. Review state, book, and currency controls if the account presents them, then click Generate Report. The SuiteApp opens a SuiteAnalytics workbook; a legacy-tax report is not a substitute.
04. Compare the workbook row
Find the invoice row by transaction type, number, and date. Some layouts show only the numeric part of the document number, so confirm identity before comparing. If the $1,000 item is fully taxable and included once, the prepared workbook shows Total Sales $1,000, Non Taxable Sales $0, Taxable Sales $1,000, and Tax $82.50. Total Sales excludes the $82.50 tax; the invoice total is $1,082.50. Check filters, date versus tax point date, status, credits, currency, and report customization if the views disagree.

Common questions
Why does the Standard Tax Report repeat $1,000?
Each jurisdiction component can use the same item’s tax basis. Count the sale once and sum the component tax amounts.
Why might the invoice be missing from one report?
Check role access, subsidiary, Date and Tax Point Date, report date range, transaction status, book, currency, and custom filters.
Are Standard Tax Report and Sales Tax Analysis interchangeable?
No. The first exposes tax-line detail; the SuiteApp workbook presents sales and tax measures at a transaction level.
