The quick answer
Open Reports > Customer/Receivables > Customer Profitability. Set the reporting period, then compare Total Cost, Total Revenue, and Total Profit by customer. Investigate unusual costs before interpreting the profit figure.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.
Before you start
Use a role with access to reports and customer profitability data. Confirm the intended reporting context, such as date range, subsidiary, or customer filters, before interpreting the displayed figures.
01. Select Customer Profitability
Open Reports > Customer/Receivables > Customer Profitability. Wait for the Customer Profitability Summary to load. The report must be available to your role.
02. Check the report context
Confirm that the page title is Customer Profitability Summary before reviewing the figures. In the recorded example, the report is set to the date range This Month, from 7/1/2026 through 7/31/2026, with the Column control set to Total. Your available filters and dates may differ.
03. Review the customer profitability values
Read Total Cost, Total Revenue, and Total Profit together. Here, cost is negative at (658.07), so subtracting it from revenue of 1,100.00 produces profit of 1,758.07. That unusually high profit needs an explanation. Use the cost amount to inspect underlying transaction costs before drawing conclusions; the recording stops at the summary.
Check the result
- The report covers the intended date range and scope.
- Customer figures and the Total row use the same context.
- Unusual cost signs are investigated before the profit is used for a decision.
Common questions
How do I open the Customer Profitability Summary report?
Go to Reports > Customer/Receivables > Customer Profitability and select the report. The menu and report availability depend on your role, permissions, enabled features, and account configuration.
What should I review before interpreting the report?
Confirm the report title and review the displayed date range, subsidiary, customer filters, currency, and other available context. These settings—and the account’s underlying transaction data—determine which results appear.
What do the customer profitability columns and total show?
The report summarizes each customer’s Total Cost, Total Revenue, and Total Profit. The Total row is the aggregate for the displayed report context; it is not, by itself, proof of customer quality, ranking, or future performance.
Does opening the report change any NetSuite records?
No. Opening, refreshing, and reviewing the report does not create or modify records, post transactions, approve activity, or settle payments. Detail or drill-down availability may vary by role and account configuration.
