How to schedule a CSV import for a later date in NetSuite

The Import Assistant has no schedule option. Use an import-scheduler SuiteApp's Scheduled Import record to queue a saved CSV import for a set date and hour.

The quick answer

Not with the Import Assistant alone. You can save an import there and run it again by hand, but it has no setting for a future date and time. To run a CSV import later, you need a script that submits it at the right time, which is what third-party import-scheduler SuiteApps provide. The one in this walkthrough adds a Scheduled Import record: set Date To Import and Hour To Import, fill in Requested By, choose the saved CSV import in Import Template Record, attach the CSV on the Files subtab, and save. Nothing imports until the tool runs it.

The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. The Scheduled Import record and its fields come from a SuiteApp, so labels and menus can differ in the tool your account uses.

Before you start

You need three things in place:

  • An import-scheduler SuiteApp installed and set up, including whatever script deployment runs it, and a role that can create its Scheduled Import records. If you build your own instead, a scheduled or map/reduce script can submit the import with the N/task module's CSV import task.
  • A saved CSV import (an import map) for the change. Build it and test it once in the Import Assistant before you schedule it. This example uses a saved import called Item Base Price Update, an update to existing items.
  • The CSV file in the File Cabinet. Its column headers have to match the ones the saved import maps. Leave the file where it is until the import runs.
  • Access for whoever the tool runs as. That user or role needs CSV import permission, edit access to the records being updated, and access to the saved import and the file. Check your tool's documentation for which user that is. It isn't necessarily the person in Requested By.

The example resets four promotional prices after a sale ends, on 10/15/2026 at 22:00.

01. Review the CSV

Open promo-price-reset.csv and check it against the saved import. It has the header row Item Name, Base Price and four items: Trailhead 45L Pack 189.00, Summit Down Jacket 249.00, Ridge Trekking Poles 89.00, and Canyon Water Filter 64.00. It's already in the File Cabinet's Imports folder.

The CSV has a header row and four items with their base prices.

A renamed header can leave a column unmapped, and a missing required value fails that row. Either way you won't find out until after the scheduled time, so check now. Two columns are enough for the saved import in this example. A pricing import in your account may also need a price level or currency column, depending on how the saved import is mapped.

02. Start a new Scheduled Import

Open Scheduled Import List. In this account it's in Recent Records, the clock icon at the left of the navigation bar. Where it lives on your menus depends on the SuiteApp.

Scheduled Import List in the Recent Records menu.

The list has one earlier schedule, a Vendor Terms Update on 10/03/2026 at 06:00, with an Import Timestamp showing when it ran. Click New Scheduled Import.

One earlier schedule, already run. Click New Scheduled Import.

03. Choose when the import runs

Type 10/15/2026 in Date To Import and choose 22:00 in Hour To Import.

Date To Import 10/15/2026 and Hour To Import 22:00.

Hour To Import is when the tool starts the import, not a promise it finishes then. Script queues and the CSV import queue can delay it. Check which time zone your tool uses before you pick the hour.

04. Name the requester and saved import

Type Marisol Vega in Requested By. Choose Item Base Price Update in Import Template Record, and type Reset prices after the fall promotion in Notes.

Requested By, the saved import to run, and a note about why.

Requested By is a record of who asked for the change. Import Template Record is the important one. It tells the tool which saved CSV import, and so which field mapping, to use on the file.

05. Attach the CSV file

Open the Files subtab. In Attach File, choose promo-price-reset.csv from the File Cabinet list.

Choose promo-price-reset.csv in Attach File.

Folder Imports, Size (KB) 1, and File Type CSV fill in from the file. Click Add.

The added line shows the file's folder, size, date and type.

06. Save the scheduled import

Click Save. The record shows Date To Import 10/15/2026, Hour To Import 22:00, Requested By Marisol Vega, and Import Template Record Item Base Price Update. Import Timestamp is blank because the tool hasn't processed the record yet.

The saved schedule. Import Timestamp stays blank until the tool runs the import.
The Files subtab keeps promo-price-reset.csv with the schedule.

Check the result

  1. Date To Import and Hour To Import read 10/15/2026 and 22:00.
  2. Import Template Record is the saved import that matches the file, Item Base Price Update.
  3. The Files subtab lists promo-price-reset.csv.
  4. Import Timestamp is blank.

Saving sets up the run. It doesn't import anything. After the scheduled time, check that Import Timestamp has filled in. Treat it as the time the tool submitted the import, not proof that every row went in. Then go to Setup > Import/Export > View CSV Import Status, find the job, and open its response file. A job can complete and still have rejected rows.

Common questions

Why doesn't the Import Assistant have a schedule option?

It's built to run an import when you submit it. You can save the mapping and run it again by hand, but there's no date or time field. Running it later takes a script, either one you write or one that comes with an import-scheduler SuiteApp.

What does the scheduler need from a saved CSV import?

A saved import it can run, chosen in Import Template Record, plus the CSV attached on the Files subtab. The file's headers have to match that saved import's mapping. Test the saved import once by hand before you schedule it.

Why did my import run later than the hour I set?

Hour To Import is when the tool starts, not when the import finishes. Script queues and the CSV import queue can both add delay, especially when other imports are running. Also check which time zone the tool uses, since it may not be yours.

How do I attach a CSV file to the Scheduled Import record?

Open the Files subtab, choose the file in Attach File, and click Add. The file has to be in the File Cabinet already. Folder, size and file type fill in from the file.

Can I build this myself with SuiteScript?

Yes. A scheduled or map/reduce script can submit a CSV import with the N/task module, pointing at the saved import and the file. You'd also want it to record the task ID, avoid submitting the same file twice, and report failures.

How do I check whether the import worked?

Go to Setup > Import/Export > View CSV Import Status, find the job, and open its response file. A job can finish with some rows rejected, so read the row results and spot-check a couple of the updated items.
