How to create a contact in NetSuite

Create a NetSuite contact, enter a name and email, and verify the saved record. See where to check its company association.

The quick answer

Open a new Contact form, enter the person's name and email, and save. Check the resulting record to make sure the details were retained. If the contact belongs to a customer or vendor, select that company explicitly; an email address won't create the association.

The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

Use a role that can create contacts. Search for the person first so you don't add another copy. Have their name, email, and any company association ready. The example uses a OneWorld subsidiary; complete the fields your form requires.

01. Check the new contact form

Open a new Contact from Lists > Relationships > Contacts > New, or your role’s equivalent. Confirm you’re on a blank form. Check the subsidiary and decide whether this person should be associated with a company. The example leaves Company empty.

The new Contact form shows the subsidiary and Company field before details are entered.

02. Enter the name and email

Fill in the name fields, then enter Email. Here, the completed address is jordan.blake@testco.example. Read it back before saving; a valid-looking address can still belong to the wrong person.

03. Save and check the contact

Select Save and wait for the saved Contact page. Check the name and email there. In this example, the Companies list is empty, so no company association is shown. Saving stores the contact details; it doesn’t send a message.

The saved Contact retains Jordan Blake’s email address.

Check the result

  1. The saved Contact page is visible.
  2. The name and email match the intended person.
  3. The Company association is correct, or intentionally empty.

Common questions

How do I create a new Contact in NetSuite?

Open a blank Contact form, enter the person’s first name, last name, and email address, then select Save. If the account requires fields such as Company or Subsidiary, complete those as well.

How can I tell whether the Contact was saved?

NetSuite should display the saved Contact record, typically with a confirmation message or record details. Verify that the Contact’s name and email appear on the resulting record page.

Does saving a Contact send an email?

No. Saving stores the email address on the Contact record; it does not send a message, confirm delivery, or grant the person NetSuite access.

Does creating a Contact automatically link it to a Customer or Vendor?

No. Select a Company or related entity on the Contact form when an association is required. Available relationship fields, required selections, duplicate warnings, and subsidiary rules depend on the account, form customization, enabled features, and your role permissions.
