The quick answer
Open a new Lead, choose Company or Individual, and enter the identifying details. Review any duplicate warning before saving. The saved lead's status tells you where it sits in your sales process; creating it doesn't qualify or convert it.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.
Before you start
Search for the company or person before opening a new Lead. Use a role with permission to create leads, and have the email and required subsidiary available. Pick a lead status that matches your team’s process.
01. Check the lead type and status
Go to Lists > Relationships > Leads > New. Choose Company for a business or Individual for a person. This example uses a company and starts at LEAD-Unqualified. Review the primary subsidiary before entering the lead details.
02. Enter details and review duplicates
Enter Company Name and Email. The example uses Prospect Industries and hello@prospect.example, and NetSuite reports a possible duplicate. Open the matching record and determine whether it is the same lead before creating another. The recording continues with a duplicate; that isn’t a step to copy into your own account.
03. Confirm the saved lead
Correct validation issues and handle possible duplicates under your team’s policy before selecting Save. Check the saved name, email, and lead status. The demonstration ends on a saved lead with a duplicate warning still present. It has not been converted into a prospect or customer.
Check the result
- The saved record is a Lead with the intended status.
- The company and email are correct.
- Any duplicate warning has been investigated before the record is used.
Common questions
How do I create a company Lead with an email address?
Open a new Lead form, select Company as the type, enter the company name and email address, complete any other fields marked required, and select Save. The exact form, required fields, default status, and available navigation depend on the account configuration, selected form, enabled CRM features, and your role permissions.
How can I tell whether the Lead saved successfully?
Wait for NetSuite to display the saved Lead record rather than the blank entry form. Confirm that the company name and email are visible on the record and that NetSuite shows a saved-record confirmation or record details; a validation message means the save was not completed.
What should I do if NetSuite warns about a possible duplicate?
Review the suggested existing records before proceeding. Company names and email addresses are not necessarily unique, and your account’s duplicate-detection rules may warn without blocking the save or may require different action.
Does saving the Lead convert it into a Prospect or Customer?
No. Saving creates or updates only the Lead record; it does not qualify or convert it, create a Contact or Opportunity, send an email, or confirm marketing attribution. Conversion and qualification behavior depends on the account’s configured sales process and must be performed separately.
