The quick answer
In Setup > Import/Export > Import CSV Records, choose Relationships and Customers Only, upload the CSV, and select Add for new customers. Check mappings, run the import, and compare imported and rejected counts with the expected rows.
This example adds two customers. The screenshots use fictional example data. Update and Add or Update have different matching behavior and are outside this walkthrough.
Before you start
You need CSV import and customer-create permissions. Prepare a valid CSV with headers, supported encoding, and values for the fields required by the selected customer form and account configuration. In OneWorld, confirm the subsidiary requirements. Custom mandatory fields, duplicate handling, and reference values can cause rows to fail. Check whether the chosen import options run server scripts and workflows.
01 · Review and upload the customer file
Review Company Name, E-Mail, phone, status, and any required fields for each intended row. Open Setup > Import/Export > Import CSV Records. Choose Relationships, then Customers Only, upload the prepared CSV, and continue.
02 · Choose Add and review import options
Use Data Handling: Add when the rows are new customer records. Review advanced options and the applicable form. For reference fields such as subsidiary, currency, terms, or sales rep, confirm that each value matches the selected name or internal/external ID reference type.
03 · Confirm the customer-field mappings
Check that Company Name and E-Mail map to the intended Customer fields. Verify every required mapping and any default values before continuing. Mapping alone does not create records.
04 · Run and verify the import
Continue to the final stage and select Run or Save and Run, as provided by the interface. Open View CSV Import Status to review the job; the recorded example labels its job view Import Job Status. Review the job status and compare imported and rejected counts with the expected two rows in this fictional example. For another file, use its expected row count. Open or download CSV Response for failures. As a follow-up check outside the recording, spot-check created customer records.
Common questions
Which import type creates customer records?
Choose Relationships and Customers Only. Select Data Handling Add for new customers. Update requires a reliable record identifier and has different matching behavior.
Does a complete job mean every row imported successfully?
No. A completed job can contain rejected rows. Compare imported and rejected counts with the expected rows, inspect the response file for errors, and spot-check customer records.
Why can a customer row fail?
Required fields, invalid reference values, duplicate handling, subsidiary access, or custom automation can reject a row. Use the job response file to identify the actual error before changing the CSV.
