The quick answer
Open Transactions > Manufacturing > Build Work Orders, set Bulk Build From Location and check Filter, mark the Released work orders and click Submit, then read the result on Process Status. A submission can be Complete at 100.0% and still report errors. In the example both orders failed because the assembly needs inventory detail, which a bulk build cannot collect, so each had to be built individually with Create Build.

Before you start
You need Work Orders and Assembly Items enabled, permission to build work orders, and Released work orders with committed components at the location you build from. Build Work Orders is meant for non-WIP work orders built with a standard Assembly Build. A WIP work order follows issue and completion instead. Which orders qualify depends on the Filter by choice and on component availability.
01. Open Build Work Orders
Open Transactions > Manufacturing and choose Build Work Orders in the Bulk Actions group. Bulk Build From Location is required and still empty, so the list holds Released work orders from every location. In the example that is five orders from Spokane Warehouse and Boise Warehouse. The grid shows Date, Order #, Item, Customer:Project Name, Memo, the production dates and Order Quantity, with a Build checkbox and a Build link on each row.
02. Choose the location and check Filter
Set Bulk Build From Location to Spokane Warehouse and check Filter. In the account observed, the list narrows to that location only when Filter is checked. Filter by stays on Some Items Committed, which keeps orders that have at least one committed component. Three orders remain: WO4408 for Camp Kettle and WO4410 and WO4411 for Ridgeline Headlamp.
03. Mark the work orders and submit
Check Build on each work order you want built, here WO4410 and WO4411, and click Submit. WO4408 stays unmarked. A bulk build attempts each marked order as written, so use it for orders that need no changes to components and no inventory detail.
04. Follow the submission in Process Status
Submit opens Process Status with a Build Work Orders row at Not Started and 0.0%. Click Refresh until Submission Status is Complete. The page carries a notice that Build Work Orders uses this status page. Here the row ends at Complete, 100.0% with 2 Errors in the Message column. Complete means the submission finished evaluating the marked orders. It does not mean each one was built.
05. Read the error
Click 2 Errors. Bulk Processing Errors: Results lists one row per distinct message with a Count. Here the single row reads Count 2, “Please configure the inventory detail for the assembly item.” Both marked orders failed for that reason: the finished assembly needs inventory detail, and a bulk build has no place to enter it. Those orders have no assembly build. Open each work order, choose Create Build and enter the inventory detail there, then check that the work order’s Built quantity changed.
Check the result
- Process Status shows the Build Work Orders submission as Complete at 100.0%.
- The Message column reads 0 Errors, or the error link opens Bulk Processing Errors and the message explains each failure.
- For each order that failed, there is no assembly build yet. After you build it individually, the work order shows the built quantity.
Common questions
Why does Process Status say Complete at 100.0% when nothing was built?
Complete means the submission finished evaluating every marked row. The Message column counts the rows that failed, and its link lists the reasons. Treat any error count above zero as unbuilt orders until you confirm otherwise on the work order.
What does "Please configure the inventory detail for the assembly item" mean?
The finished assembly needs inventory detail, such as a lot number, serial numbers or a bin, and a bulk build cannot enter it. Build that work order on its own with Create Build, where you can enter the detail, and check the Built quantity afterwards.
Does Filter change which work orders are listed?
In the account shown, the list covered every location until a Bulk Build From Location was chosen and Filter was checked. Filter by then limits orders by component commitment. Its choices and the rows listed depend on your commitments and setup.
Can I change component quantities in a bulk build?
No. A bulk build builds each work order as written. Record scrap or changed component quantities on an individual Assembly Build.
Does this apply to WIP work orders?
No. Build Work Orders is for non-WIP work orders. A WIP work order uses issue, completion and close transactions instead.
