The quick answer
Open the asset from Advanced Manufacturing > Configuration Reports > Assets and click View. On its Shop Calendar subtab click New AM Asset Calendar Change. Enter a Name that says why, the Effective Date, a Start Time and End Time, keep Repeat as One-Time, leave Available unchecked to mark the asset unavailable, and click Save. The change then appears on the asset's Shop Calendar. Saving it doesn't necessarily reschedule work that is already scheduled, so rerun the scheduling process you rely on and check one operation.
The screenshots show sample data. Person, company, asset and work center names are fictional. Use your own assets and dates when following the steps.
This guide adds the calendar change only. It doesn't run finite scheduling, release a work order or show a schedule. The menu path, subtabs, buttons and field labels are what the account used here shows, and they can vary by version, role and features.
Before you start
In this example, Alex Morgan at Example Supply Co. wants Quilting Machine 2 at the Ogden Quilting Cell treated as unavailable during a service visit on December 1, 2026 (12/01/2026), from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. You need:
- Advanced Manufacturing set up, with permission to view and edit AM Assets and their calendar changes.
- The asset already created, ideally assigned to its work center. An asset with no work center isn't schedulable through a work center until one is set, and the routing and work bench setup can matter too.
- The date and the start and end times of the window, and a Name that says why the asset is blocked, because the record has no separate reason field.
- A plan for what to check afterward, such as rerunning your scheduling process and looking at one affected operation.
01. Open the asset
Go to Advanced Manufacturing > Configuration Reports > Assets. The AM Asset Search: Results page opens.
The page lists the assets with their Department, Work Center and Asset Name. In this example there are eight, and the total reads 8. Click View on the Quilting Machine 2 row.
The AM Asset record opens. It shows the Asset Name and the Web Service Name, and its Organization subtab shows the Department Quilting and the Work Center Ogden Quilting Cell as links.
02. Look at its Shop Calendar
Open the Shop Calendar subtab. It lists the asset's AM Asset Calendar Change records, and for this asset it shows No records to show. The New AM Asset Calendar Change button sits above the list.
03. Enter the maintenance window
Click New AM Asset Calendar Change. The form opens with Quilting Machine 2 already shown as the Asset, which avoids picking the wrong asset from the list of every asset.
Enter a Name that says why, here Planned maintenance visit, and the Effective Date 12/01/2026. Leave Effective Until empty and Repeat as One-Time. For a one-time change the Effective Date is the day, and Start Time and End Time are the window. In this account Repeat offers One-Time and Repeat Weekly. Use Effective Until to end a weekly change on a date, and confirm in your account what a blank end date does on a weekly change.
Set the Start Time to 8:00 am and the End Time to 12:00 pm. The form filled both with the current time of day, so replace both. Leave Available unchecked. Unchecked treats the asset as unavailable during the window, and checked treats it as available. Maintenance and extra hours are only examples, and Available alone doesn't authorize work outside the normal schedule.
Avoid overlapping changes on the same asset and time unless you know how your account resolves them, and test how your account treats a window that crosses midnight before relying on one.
04. Save and check the Shop Calendar
Click Save. The asset opens again. Open the Shop Calendar subtab. A new row shows Planned maintenance visit, 12/01/2026, One-Time, 8:00 am, 12:00 pm and Available No.
The row confirms the stored values. It doesn't show the effect on scheduling. Rerun the scheduling or capacity process your plant uses, then check the affected operation's asset, dates and status, and try it on one noncritical work order first.
Check the result
- The Shop Calendar of Quilting Machine 2 went from no records to one row.
- The row shows Planned maintenance visit, 12/01/2026, One-Time, 8:00 am and 12:00 pm.
- The row shows Available No.
Common questions
What is an AM Asset, and how is it different from a work center?
An AM Asset is a resource, typically a machine or a station, that can be assigned to a work center. The work center is the production area, and the asset is a particular machine in it. In the account shown, Department is required and Work Center is optional when you create an asset. An asset with no work center isn't schedulable through a work center until one is set, and the routing and work bench setup can matter too.
What does an AM Asset Calendar Change do?
It is a dated exception to one asset's normal availability, with a Name, an Effective Date, an optional Effective Until, a Repeat choice, a Start Time and End Time and an Available check box. It doesn't directly edit the routing or the work center's own calendar, although capacity and scheduling calculations that use the asset can change because of it.
What does the Available check box mean?
Unchecked, the asset is treated as unavailable during the window. Checked, it is treated as available. Maintenance and extra hours are only examples of why, and the Name is where you record the reason because the record has no reason field. Available alone shouldn't be read as authorizing work outside the normal schedule.
Will the change reschedule work orders that are already scheduled?
Not necessarily. The change is considered when a scheduling or capacity process next reads the asset's calendar. The process that picks it up depends on how your plant schedules, so rerun that process, then check the asset, dates and status of an affected operation and test with one noncritical work order first.
How do I make a change repeat, and what does Effective Until do?
In the account shown, Repeat offers One-Time and Repeat Weekly. For a one-time change the Effective Date is the day and Effective Until is normally not needed. For a weekly change use Effective Until to end it on a date. This guide doesn't test a weekly change, so confirm whether a blank Effective Until is accepted and what it then does.
What are the common mistakes?
Leaving the Start Time and End Time at the default current time, choosing the wrong asset when creating the change from the list instead of from the asset, overlapping two changes on the same asset and time, and assuming a window that crosses midnight works. Confirm which time zone your manufacturing calendar and scheduling process use, because the displayed time may not be the time every process uses.
