The quick answer
Open Mass Create Work Orders on the Reorder Point Items tab, tick the assemblies and submit them, then confirm the result on Process Status and Processed Items. The new work orders are Planned, so release them with Mark Work Orders Released. In the account shown, the assemblies stayed on the list until their work orders were released.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.
Before you start
You need the Work Orders and Assembly Items features, an active assembly with a bill of materials, and permission to view and create work orders and to release them. The assembly must use a replenishment method that lists it on Reorder Point Items, with Build Point and Preferred Stock Level set for the location. Which tab lists an item, and which fields it compares, depends on its replenishment method and your planning setup. Check the item setup before you rely on the list.
01. See the assemblies on Reorder Point Items
Open Transactions > Manufacturing > Mass Create Work Orders and select Reorder Point Items. In the example the Assemblies to Order reminder on Home showed 3 and opened this page. Each row shows Location, Item, Available, Back Ordered, On Order, Build Point, Preferred Stock Level and a suggested Quantity. Camp Stove Assembly has 14 available, 0 back ordered, 0 on order, a build point of 24 and a preferred stock level of 66, so the suggestion is 52.
02. Check where Build Point comes from
Open the assembly item, go to the Purchasing/Inventory subtab and find the Locations sublist. Switch its View to Planning. The Reno Warehouse row holds Preferred Stock Level 66 and Build Point 24. Those per-location values decide whether the assembly is listed and what quantity is suggested. The columns you see depend on your enabled features and the sublist view, so check the item in your own account before you change a planning value.
03. Set the quantities and submit
The suggested quantity is Preferred Stock Level plus any Back Ordered quantity, minus Available, minus On Order. For Lantern Kit Assembly that is 120 - 22 - 12 = 86. It is only a starting point. In the example Camp Stove Assembly was changed from 52 to 48 because only 48 fit that week's line schedule. Tick Order on each row you want and click Submit.
04. Confirm the submission on Process Status
Submit does not create the work orders on the page. It queues a submission, and Process Status follows it from Not Started through In Progress to Complete. Click Refresh until it shows Complete with 0 Errors, then open Processed Items. Each line shows Line Status Complete, Result Success and a link to its work order. These work orders are in Planned status, so open one and check its quantity and location before moving on.
05. Release the work orders in bulk
Open Transactions > Manufacturing > Mark Work Orders Released. In the account shown, Subsidiary is required, so set it first, then narrow the list with Location, Item or Customer. Tick Mark Released on the three new work orders, leave any other Planned work orders unticked, and click Submit. This is also a queued submission, so refresh Process Status until it shows Complete with 0 Errors.
06. Confirm the reorder list has cleared
Return to Mass Create Work Orders and open Reorder Point Items. In the account observed, the three assemblies were no longer listed once their work orders were Released. Before the release they were still listed with the Planned work orders in place, so releasing is the step that cleared the alert here. Open one work order to confirm its status is Released.
Check the result
- Process Status shows Complete with 0 Errors for the Mass Create Work Orders submission.
- Processed Items shows Line Status Complete, Result Success and a work order link for every row.
- After Mark Work Orders Released completes, the work orders are Released and the assemblies no longer appear on Reorder Point Items in this account.
Common questions
Why does an assembly still appear on Reorder Point Items after I create the work order?
A Planned work order is non-posting and does not commit components, so in the account shown it did not clear the row. Release the work order, then refresh the page. What removes a row depends on your replenishment method and planning setup, so check the item if it still appears.
How is the suggested quantity calculated?
It is generally Preferred Stock Level plus any quantity needed, minus Available, minus On Order. In the example the Back Ordered quantity was 0. The value is an editable suggestion, and labels or inputs can vary with the planning setup.
Does Submit create the work orders immediately?
No. In the account shown, Submit queues a submission. Refresh Process Status until it is Complete, check the error count, then use Processed Items to open each work order.
Does releasing a work order finish production?
No. Releasing lets components be committed and production continue. The finished goods only reach inventory after an Assembly Build or WIP completion.
Is Subsidiary required on Mark Work Orders Released?
It was required in the OneWorld account shown. Item and Customer filters are standard, and Subsidiary and Location depend on your account, so use the filters your page shows.
