The quick answer
Create the reusable test first: go to Advanced Manufacturing > Administration / Setup > Master Inspection List and click New AM Inspection Master. Then open Inspection Profile List, click New AM Inspection Profile and save the profile. On the saved profile's Test List, click New AM Inspection Profile Tests, choose the test as the Test Name, and enter the target value, control limits and sample percentage.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and company names are fictional. Use your own tests, limits and profile names when following the steps.
This guide creates an inspection master, an inspection profile and one measurement test row. It doesn't link the profile to an item, a routing operation or a receiving step, and it doesn't record an inspection result. Saving a profile does not by itself make inspections happen: that depends on how your account applies the profile. Section names, list columns, option lists and the available fields can vary by version, form and account.
Before you start
In this example, Alex Morgan at Example Supply Co. wants the width of a heat seal checked on finished packs. You need:
- Advanced Manufacturing enabled, so the Advanced Manufacturing menu has an Administration / Setup group with Master Inspection List and Inspection Profile List. Menu labels can vary by version and role.
- Permission to create AM Inspection Master, AM Inspection Profile and AM Inspection Profile Tests records, and any account-specific required fields or custom forms satisfied.
- The measurement, its target and its acceptable range. This example uses a target of 12 with limits of 11.5 and 12.5.
These are Advanced Manufacturing records, separate from the specifications and inspections under the Quality menu.
01. Add the test to the Master Inspection List
Go to Advanced Manufacturing > Administration / Setup > Master Inspection List. Each row is a reusable test with its category, description, method, qualification, unit, calibration flag, type and result. In this example the list has four tests and none checks a seal. The last columns run past the right edge of a normal window.
Click New AM Inspection Master. The form has a Definition group and a Parameters group. Enter Seal Width Check as the Inspection Name, which is required, and add a description. Choose In-Process Inspection as the Inspection Category and Standard Result as the Inspection Type.
Under Parameters, choose Measurement Certification as the Inspector Qualification, Measurement as the Inspection Method, Measurement as the Inspection Results and Each as the Unit Of Measure.
Click Save. The saved test opens with Seal Width Check under the page title and the values you entered.
02. Create the inspection profile
A test becomes a requirement when it sits in a profile. Open Administration / Setup > Inspection Profile List and click New AM Inspection Profile. Enter Sealed Pack Final Check as the Inspection Profile Name, choose In-Process Inspection as the Profile Type and enter 11/02/2026 as the Effectivity Date. Click Save.
The saved profile opens on its Test List subtab, which has no rows yet. On this form the Test List appears only after the profile is saved.
03. Add the test to the profile
On the Test List, click New AM Inspection Profile Tests. The Profile field is already filled in. Choose Seal Width Check as the Test Name. In the reviewed account the Inspection Method, Inspection Type and Inspection Results fill in from the master test. The Unit Of Measure did not, so set it yourself.
Choose Move To MRB as the Default Corrective Measure, Each as the Unit Of Measure and enter 10 as the Sequence. Under Quality Standards enter 12 as the Target Value, 11.5 as the Lower Control Limit, 12.5 as the Upper Control Limit and 10 as the Sample Set Percentage. Under Business Rules, check Manditory. That is how the form labels it; the standard spelling is mandatory.
Click Save. The profile opens again and the Test List shows the Seal Width Check row with sequence 10, sample 10, target 12, lower limit 11.5 and upper limit 12.5. Check that the lower limit is below the upper limit and that the limits use the same unit as the target.
Scroll the Test List to the right to read the rest of the row: Manditory Yes, Measurement as the result type and Move To MRB as the default corrective measure.
Check the result
- The Seal Width Check test is saved and appears in the Master Inspection List.
- The Sealed Pack Final Check profile is saved with the Profile Type In-Process Inspection and the Effectivity Date you entered.
- The profile's Test List shows Seal Width Check with target 12, limits 11.5 and 12.5, sample 10, Manditory Yes and Move To MRB.
Common questions
What is the difference between an AM Inspection Master and an AM Inspection Profile?
The master is the reusable test: its name, category, method, result type and unit. The profile is the plan that lists tests and adds the standards for that use, such as the target value, control limits and sample percentage.
Why can't I add tests to a new inspection profile?
The Test List appears on the saved profile. Save the profile first, then use New AM Inspection Profile Tests on its Test List.
What does Move To MRB mean as a default corrective measure?
It is one of the choices for the corrective action associated with a failed test. In the reviewed account the list also offers Open Repair Order and Cancel Work Order. MRB usually stands for material review board. Whether the choice moves inventory, creates a record or only proposes an action depends on your account, so test a failed inspection before relying on it.
Which fields come from the master test and which do I set on the profile?
In the reviewed account, choosing the Test Name filled in the Inspection Method, Inspection Type and Inspection Results from the master test. You set the Unit Of Measure, Sequence, Default Corrective Measure, the quality standards and the business rules on the profile row.
Does entering control limits and a sample percentage make a test pass or fail automatically?
This guide doesn't show a test being run, so it doesn't show how the limits or the Sample Set Percentage are applied. Test the profile with a real quantity and value before relying on them, and check how your account handles sampling for the inspection type you chose.
Why does the Test List show Pass / Fail Test No for this row?
The row's result type is Measurement, so the inspector records a number instead of a pass or fail. A Pass/Fail test shows Yes in that column in the reviewed account.
Does saving the profile activate it?
Saving creates the record. Whether it is used depends on its effectivity date, any inactive setting, and how your account applies profiles to items, operations or receiving, which this guide doesn't show.
How is a profile applied to an item, a routing operation or a receipt?
This guide doesn't show that step. The Quality / Inspection Reports menu has reports named Inspection Profile Report - Summary, Inspection Profile Report - Detail and Items with Inspection Profiles, but a report isn't the place where a profile is assigned. Check the item, the operation and your receiving setup in your account.
Why does the form say Manditory?
That is how the field is labeled on the form and on the Test List in the reviewed account. The standard spelling is mandatory. Use the label as it appears in your account.
