The quick answer
On the sales order's Items subtab, click Reallocate in Reallocate Order Item for the line you need to change. In the recommendation window, check the selected orders and the Affected Orders tab before choosing Accept Recommendation and Reallocate. Return to the sales order and verify Committed, Back Ordered, and Expected Ship Date on the target line.
The screenshots use fictional person, company, customer, order and item names. The April 2022 dates and three-unit change are preserved from the recorded demonstration, while the visible names and identifiers are fictional; use your own records when following the steps.
Before you start
You need Supply Allocation enabled and configured, the required sales-order and allocation access, and an eligible line at the relevant location. The Reallocate Order Item link can vary by role, form, allocation strategy, line state and available supply or competing demand. In this example, SO4303 for Metro Grocery needs three cases of Sparkling Lime 12-Pack at Boston. Allocated Supply is 3, but Committed is 0 and Back Ordered is 3. Allocated supply and commitment answer different questions; allocated supply can be current or future supply and does not, by itself, mean the quantity is committed or available to pick.
The recommendation proposes a new expected ship date. Treat it as a calculated expected ship or availability date, not a delivery guarantee. The calculation can depend on the allocation strategy, allocated supplies, required-by date and ATP lead time. Check each affected order separately before changing a customer promise.
01. Read the target line
Open SO4303 and select Items. Find the Sparkling Lime line. Record its starting numbers: Committed 0, Allocated Supply 3, Back Ordered 3, and Expected Ship Date 04/11/2022. These are the values to compare with the line after accepting the recommendation.
02. Open the recommendation
Scroll across the same item row to Reallocate Order Item, then click Reallocate. Confirm that the Reallocate Order Item window names the intended sales order, item, customer, quantity, supply-required date and location. Its Recommendation Summary compares the original expected ship date, 04/11/2022, with the recommended date, 04/05/2022. Opening the window does not apply that change.
03. Check the selected orders
In Select Orders for Reallocation, read the orders included in the proposal. The example shows SO4302 for Corner Market selected for the same item, with quantity 7. If you change the selection, choose Generate Recommendation and inspect the updated proposal before accepting. The recorded path leaves the selection as shown.
04. Review affected orders
Open Affected Orders. The proposal lists both SO4302 and the target SO4303. Compare their allocated quantities and proposed dates. SO4303 has three units allocated and a recommended expected ship date of 04/05/2022. If a proposed change would be unacceptable for either customer, adjust the selection and generate a new recommendation before accepting. The other order's saved result is not established by the target order's readback.
05. Accept and verify
Choose Accept Recommendation and Reallocate. Back on SO4303, scroll across the item row and verify Expected Ship Date 04/05/2022. Then read the quantities: Committed 3, Back Ordered 0, and Allocated Supply 3. The example confirms the target line's result; check SO4302 separately if its final state matters to a customer.
Check the result
- SO4303 shows Committed 3 and Back Ordered 0 on the target line.
- Allocated Supply remains 3.
- Expected Ship Date is 04/05/2022, the recommended date.
- Any promise involving SO4302 is checked on that order separately.
Common questions
Why is Allocated Supply 3 when Committed is 0?
Allocated Supply identifies supply associated with the demand line; it may include current or future supply and does not by itself establish commitment or pick availability. Read Committed and Back Ordered separately, and open allocation detail if the supply type or receipt status matters.
Does Generate Recommendation change the sales order?
No. It calculates a proposal to review. Accept Recommendation and Reallocate applies the proposal, so inspect Affected Orders first.
Where is Reallocate Order Item if I do not see it?
The link depends on Supply Allocation setup, role and form access, the line's allocation or commitment state, and whether suitable supply or other demand exists. Check those conditions on the sales order before assuming the recommendation is available.
Does the recommended expected ship date guarantee delivery?
No. It is a calculated expected ship or availability date projected by the recommendation, subject to the allocation strategy, supply and required-by date. Confirm the saved line after accepting and use the current supply and fulfillment status before making a customer promise.
Did SO4302 lose its commitment in this example?
The proposal includes SO4302, but the walkthrough only verifies the saved result on SO4303. Open SO4302 to confirm its final commitment and expected ship date before drawing a conclusion.
