The quick answer
Check the date window on Transactions > Inventory > Create Inventory Count. A start date later than an item's required-count date can exclude it. Move only Count Start Date earlier, keep the other filters fixed, and compare any returned Next Count Date values. Leave Select unchecked and Submit unused while testing.
An empty list doesn't tell you whether the item needs a count. In this example, an August window returns no rows. Moving the start to July reveals two items with July dates. That result supports a date-filter explanation for these rows; it doesn't diagnose every missing item.
Before you start
Use a role with access to the native Create Inventory Count page and the relevant items and location. This example uses Harborline US and East Depot. The available subsidiary and location controls depend on your account and role.
The screenshots use sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Dates use MM/DD/YYYY; follow the format shown in your account. This walkthrough changes a list filter. It does not edit an item, create an inventory count, or post an adjustment.
01. Check the original window
Open Transactions > Inventory > Create Inventory Count. Choose Harborline US and East Depot. Confirm Count Start Date 08/01/2026 and Count End Date 08/31/2026.
Leave Classification blank, Count Bin Rows With Zero Quantity and Sort Rows By Bin unchecked, and Account at its existing value. Keep those settings fixed so the next action tests one explanation.
The list shows No records to show. That is the result for this window and these filters.
02. Widen only the start date
Replace Count Start Date with 07/01/2026, then move focus out of the field. Leave Count End Date at 08/31/2026 and keep the other settings unchanged.
03. Read the returned rows
Two items now appear: ROL-482 Roller Bearing and PIN-735 Retaining Pin. Their Select boxes stay unchecked.
Their Next Count Date values are 07/14/2026 and 07/19/2026, in the same row order. Both fall before the original August start and within the widened window.
Check that the end date and location still match the original settings. Leave Submit unused. The result is a widened candidate list; no inventory count has been created.
If the item you need still does not appear, this test has not established the cause. Check its setup and the remaining filters separately. Do not treat the example as a general eligibility repair.
Common questions
Why can an earlier-due item be hidden?
Count Start Date is a lower bound. A start of August 1 excludes July 14 and July 19, even if those required-count dates have already passed. Moving the start to July 1 includes those dates.
Which dates do these filters use?
They use the item's calculated required-count date, shown here as Next Count Date. The start includes dates on or after it; the end includes dates on or before it. They do not select inventory transactions by transaction date.
Does widening the dates create a count?
No. It changes the displayed candidate list. This example leaves both Select boxes unchecked and never uses Submit.
What if the list is still empty?
The date change has not established the cause. Keep track of the filters you tested and investigate the item's setup and access separately. An empty result alone does not tell you which condition excluded the item.
