The quick answer
Create the consignment sales order for the consumed item, then choose Fulfill. On the Item Fulfillment, assign the lot and quantity in Inventory Detail, save it as Shipped, and choose Bill. Save the invoice and read its status, source order, and amount due on the saved record.
This example uses fictional person and operating-company names. It follows a customized customer-consignment setup using a consignment location and transaction forms. It does not describe the separate vendor-consigned-inventory feature. Check your own features, forms, locations, and accounting policy before posting a real transaction.
Before you start
You need a customer, a lot-numbered inventory item available at the consignment location, and permission to enter sales orders, fulfillments, and invoices. Before fulfillment, confirm that LOT-615 exists with at least one available unit at Consignment Stock. Any transfer that placed it there is a separate transaction and is outside this walkthrough. Confirm the customer's consumption report and the approved quantity and price. The recorded source uses a customized 2019 sandbox; its form names and field placement may differ in your account.
01. Create and check the sales order
Enter a one-line sales order for Harbor Clinic: one Implant Adapter Kit at HKD 1,390.00 from Consignment Stock. Save it and check that the order is Pending Fulfillment with a Fulfill action. The example order number is SO-967.
02. Assign the lot and ship
Choose Fulfill. Keep the line at quantity 1, open Inventory Detail, and assign LOT-615 for one piece. The available quantity shown in the example is one. Confirm the lot row, save the fulfillment with status Shipped, and check that its saved record links back to SO-967. The example fulfillment number is IF-1735.
03. Invoice the consumed item
Choose Bill from the shipped fulfillment. Check the customer, one invoiced line, and HKD 1,390.00 displayed total. In this customized example, the fulfillment uses Consignment Stock while the invoice header location is changed to Main Warehouse. These are separate fields; the invoice choice is account-specific, not a general consignment requirement. Verify line-level location, tax, pricing, and posting fields against your own setup before saving. The location choice alone does not prove how consignment ownership is accounted for.
04. Read the saved invoice
Save and reopen the resulting invoice. In the example, INV-951 is Open, its Created From link points to SO-967, and the summary shows HKD 1,390.00 as both Total and Amount Due. An open invoice is a receivable; this walkthrough does not show payment, inventory ownership transfer, or the GL impact.
Common questions
Where is the consumed lot entered?
In this walkthrough, open Inventory Detail on the Item Fulfillment line and assign the lot and quantity before saving the shipment. LOT-615 has one available unit and one unit is assigned. Other accounts may assign lots earlier or through automation.
Does the shipped fulfillment create the invoice automatically?
No. In this demonstrated configuration, the operator saves the fulfillment, then uses Bill to create and save a separate invoice. Other shipping and billing configurations may combine these actions.
Does an Open invoice mean the customer paid?
No. The saved invoice shows the full amount due. It also does not establish customer acceptance, ownership transfer, approval, or delivery of the invoice. Payment and accounting entries need their own verification.
