Receive a Purchase Order and Complete Bin Putaway in NetSuite

Receive the remaining purchase order quantity into an inbound staging bin, then move the received stock to its final warehouse bin using NetSuite WMS Bin Putaway.

The quick answer

Use WMS Receiving to receive the outstanding purchase order quantity into the warehouse's inbound staging bin. Then use Bin Putaway to move that already-received quantity from staging to an eligible destination bin; putaway doesn't receive the purchase order again.

Before you start

The purchase order must be approved and receivable at the selected warehouse. Confirm that WMS is configured with an inbound staging bin, an eligible destination bin, the required inventory status and unit, and the appropriate receiving permissions. This example uses a non-lot, non-serial item and automatic item-receipt posting.

01. Check the selected WMS warehouse

Start from the WMS Warehouse Manager home page and confirm that the selected warehouse is Coastal Depot. The warehouse determines where the receiving work is performed, so don't continue if the warehouse context is wrong. Mobile menus and the launcher can differ by role and account.

Confirm the WMS Warehouse Manager home page is viewing the intended warehouse.

02. Open the receiving workflow

The demonstrated launcher is Mobile Emulator → Mobile Emulator → Mobile Screen. Choose the WMS application and Coastal Depot warehouse, then Receiving → Purchase Order. Launcher access can differ by role.

Choose Receiving from the WMS main menu.

03. Check the remaining purchase-order quantity

Choose Select PO From List, then select PO-84762 for Orchard Industrial on Select PO #. On Enter Item, FLD-280 filter cartridge shows 2 received and 7 Each remaining. Select that line; receive only the outstanding quantity physically delivered.

Check the received and remaining quantities on the purchase-order line.

04. Enter the quantity and inventory status

On Enter Quantity, confirm Available inventory status and Each units. Enter the quantity physically received, which is 7 in this example, then continue to the inbound bin selection.

Enter the outstanding quantity using the displayed unit and status.

05. Receive into the staging bin

Choose the inbound staging bin used for this receipt. The example uses REC-03. Complete the receiving step, then check the receipt details before starting putaway.

The receiving flow offers REC-03 as an inbound bin.

06. Check the receipt before putaway

On PO Received, open Show Receipt Details. The example lists 7 Each of FLD-280 filter cartridge on Item Receipt IR-59318. Putaway will move that received stock; it must not create another receipt. This account posts automatically. With manual posting, complete the separate posting step before expecting a receipt number.

Receipt details confirm the 7 units received into staging.

07. Check the quantity selected for putaway

After the receiving task is complete, start Bin Putaway from the configured WMS receiving menu and select the inbound staging bin. Select the received item, then compare the putaway quantity with Expected Quantities before submitting it. The item, quantity, unit, and status should remain 7 Each and Available; Available is an inventory status and doesn't by itself prove picking availability.

Verify the staged quantity before moving it to a destination bin.

08. Check the completed bin move

After confirming Enter Quantity against Expected Quantities, continue to Enter To Bin. Keep Available status, select D2-07, and submit. Putaway Complete confirms the move of 7 Each from REC-03 to D2-07 without creating a second receipt.

Putaway Complete confirms the bin move.

Check the result

  1. The receiving line showed the expected remaining quantity before entry, and the received quantity matched the physical shipment.
  2. The putaway quantity matched the received quantity, unit, and inventory status shown under Expected Quantities.
  3. Putaway Complete showed the same item and quantity moving from the inbound staging bin to the selected destination bin.

Common questions

Why do I need bin putaway after WMS shows “PO Received”?

PO Received confirms that the quantity was received against the purchase order. If staging is enabled, the items remain in an inbound staging bin until Bin Putaway moves them to an eligible storage bin. Account rules may instead place items directly into storage during receiving.

How do I receive the remaining quantity on a partially received purchase order?

Select the approved, receivable purchase order in WMS, choose the item, and enter only the quantity currently arriving. Confirm the unit and inventory status, then assign the quantity to the eligible inbound staging bin or configured receiving bin. The Received and Remaining values describe the purchase-order line, not the quantity in a particular bin.

Where do I check the item receipt generated by mobile receiving?

Use the receiving process’s Receipt Details option, when available, and match the item, quantity, unit, and inventory status. If automatic posting is disabled, a separate item-receipt posting step may be required before a receipt number is generated or available for review. The exact screen and posting behavior depend on the account’s WMS rules and role permissions.

Does Bin Putaway receive the purchase order again?

No. Bin Putaway moves already-received inventory from the staging bin to an eligible destination bin; it does not create a second vendor receipt. Keep the item, quantity, unit, and inventory status consistent between receiving and putaway, while remembering that an inventory status such as Available does not by itself guarantee picking eligibility.
