How to scan serialized items into an RF-SMART bin transfer

Scan two serialized units in RF-SMART Bin Transfer (Serial), recover from an invalid scan, enter a destination bin, and read the submitted confirmation.

The quick answer

Open Bin Transfer (Serial) on the RF-SMART handheld. Scan each valid serial and check its item and current bin in the list. An unrecognized scan in this walkthrough shows Invalid serial while the accepted rows stay put. Tap Done, enter the destination in To Bin, and tap Submit. The green Bin transfer submitted strip confirms what the mobile screen reported. Check the saved NetSuite Bin Transfer and bin balances separately if you need proof that inventory moved.

This walkthrough uses two fictional serialized barcode scanners, HS-1048-01 and HS-1048-02, in STAGE-01. The company and person names associated with the recording are fictional example data. The handheld interface is RF-SMART, a partner SuiteApp. It is not NetSuite's native WMS Mobile screen.

Before you start

Your role needs access to RF-SMART's Bin Transfer (Serial) workflow and the account must support serialized, bin-managed inventory. Each serial must be available for its item in the source bin, location, and applicable inventory status. The destination must be an eligible bin in that same location. Your account may use different menu labels or validation rules. The old RF-SMART demo behind this example does not show a legible destination-bin value, so STOCK-02 below is an illustrative value in the recording.

01 · Open Bin Transfer (Serial)

From the RF-SMART roles menu, choose Bin Transfer (Serial). It sits near the other Bin Transfer options. The next screen is Serial Transfer, with an empty Serial field and Done at the top right.

Choose Bin Transfer (Serial), not the adjacent lot or all-item option.

02 · Scan the first serial

Scan HS-1048-01 into Serial. The accepted row shows item HS-1048, its description, Bin: STAGE-01, and Remove. The recording shows the Remove control but does not demonstrate what happens when you use it.

The first serial is listed with its item and current bin.

03 · Scan the second serial

Scan HS-1048-02. Read both rows before continuing. They identify two units of HS-1048 in STAGE-01, and each has its own Remove control.

Two accepted serials are ready for the same bin-transfer request.

04 · Reject an invalid serial

Try HS-0000-X. The red Invalid serial strip names the bad value. The full frame still shows HS-1048-01 and HS-1048-02 above it; the invalid value did not become a third row. That preservation is what this RF-SMART demonstration shows. The video does not establish which system performed validation. Check your own version before relying on identical draft behavior.

The invalid scan is rejected. Open the full frame to see the two accepted rows still above it.

05 · Enter the destination bin

Tap Done. Serial Transfer changes to a To Bin field and a Submit action. Enter an eligible destination bin. This example uses STOCK-02; the source video does not make its destination value legible.

Done advances from the serial list to the destination-bin prompt.

06 · Read the submitted confirmation

Tap Submit. The screen returns to an empty Serial field and shows a green Bin transfer submitted strip. That is the result this recording establishes. It does not display a NetSuite transaction number, an integration-complete status, or changed bin balances.

RF-SMART reports that the bin-transfer request was submitted.

Check the result

  1. Mobile: Read the green submitted message and confirm the Serial field reset.
  2. NetSuite: Look for a resulting Bin Transfer and, if one exists, match its item, serials, source bin, destination bin, location, quantity, and status.
  3. Inventory: Separately compare serial assignments and bin-level quantities. Later transactions can change those balances.

Common questions

Does “Bin transfer submitted” mean NetSuite saved the transfer?

The message proves that RF-SMART displayed a submitted confirmation. It does not, by itself, show the saved NetSuite Bin Transfer or updated inventory. Check the transaction and bin balances separately. Some integrations may queue a request before NetSuite posts it.

What happens if I scan a serial that does not exist?

In this walkthrough, RF-SMART shows Invalid serial and leaves the two accepted rows in the mobile draft. The invalid serial is not added. Partner validation and draft recovery can vary by version and configuration, so confirm this behavior in your own account.

Can I remove a serial before I submit?

The accepted serial rows each display Remove, but the recording does not use it. Its effect on the pending list is unverified in this walkthrough; test it in your version before relying on it.

Can I move serials to a bin at another location with this screen?

A native Bin Transfer moves inventory between bins within one location. For a direct move between locations, use an Inventory Transfer. Use a Transfer Order when the process needs an order, fulfillment, and receipt workflow. Confirm which RF-SMART mobile function your account uses for that move.

Where did STOCK-02 come from?

It is the illustrative destination in this recorded example. The original RF-SMART video shows the To Bin prompt and submitted result, but its scanned destination value is not legible.
