The quick answer
When WMS stages received items, the Enter Bin page that SCM Mobile shows during purchase order receiving normally lists the active bins at the warehouse whose Type is Inbound Staging. If the bin you want is missing, open it from Lists > Supply Chain > Bins, set Type to Inbound Staging and save. Receive the PO again and the bin is on the list. Check the warehouse, the item's bin setup and whether the bin is active before you change a Type.
The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.
Before you start
The warehouse has to use WMS and bins, and the WMS rule that stages received items has to be on. Use the label your account shows for that rule. The item has to be set up to use bins at the receiving location, or mobile says the item is not configured to use bins and an administrator has to check Use Bins for it. The purchase order has to be approved and receivable, and the warehouse you pick in the app has to match the bin's Location. Your role needs permission to edit bins and to receive on SCM Mobile. In an account that offers it, Setup > Custom > Mobile - App opens the same app in the browser.
This example also assumes item receipts post automatically. Menu labels and the way bins are offered vary with your release, role and WMS setup, so match each screen by its title.
01. Check which bins receiving offers
On SCM Mobile choose WMS, then Fenwick Warehouse, Receiving and Purchase Order. Choose Select PO From List, select PO 30417 and select FLT-220 on Enter Item. Keep Inventory Status on Good, enter 12 and continue. Enter Bin lists RCV-01 and RCV-02, the two Inbound Staging bins this warehouse has. BAY-A1, the bin the receiver wanted, is missing, and so is the storage bin ST-04-02.
02. Open the bin you want to use
On the desktop go to Lists > Supply Chain > Bins and click Edit beside BAY-A1. Its Type is None. Location is greyed out, because a bin's Location can't be changed after it is saved, and WMS Zone is filled in. A zone on its own doesn't make a bin eligible for staged receiving.
03. Set the bin Type
Open Type and choose Inbound Staging. In this account the list also offers None, Outbound Staging, Picking, Storage, Vendor Returns and WIP. Click Save.
04. Check the saved bin
The saved bin shows Type Inbound Staging. In this account NetSuite also filled in WMS Stage Direction In and WMS Bin Location Type Stage when the bin was saved. Check them on the saved bin. Don't treat either one as a substitute for the Type, because only the Type change was tested against the receiving list.
05. Receive again and choose the bin
On SCM Mobile repeat Receiving > Purchase Order for PO 30417, select FLT-220 and enter 12. Enter Bin now lists RCV-01, RCV-02 and BAY-A1. ST-04-02, a Storage bin, is still not offered. Select BAY-A1.
PO Received says all items for the PO were received and the item receipt was posted. That wording fits automatic posting. If your WMS rule posts item receipts manually, receiving records the work and a separate step posts the receipt.
Check the result
- Before the change, Enter Bin listed only RCV-01 and RCV-02.
- BAY-A1 saved with Type Inbound Staging.
- After the change, Enter Bin lists BAY-A1 as well, and ST-04-02 is still not offered.
Receiving isn't putaway. The staging bin only records where the received quantity waits. Bin Putaway later moves it to a destination bin, and that destination list follows the item's putaway strategy.
Common questions
Why doesn't my bin appear on the SCM Mobile Enter Bin list?
When WMS stages received items, receiving normally offers the active bins at the selected warehouse whose Type is Inbound Staging. Bins of Type None, Storage and Picking aren't substitutes in this flow, even with a WMS Zone. Check the warehouse, whether the bin is inactive, its Type, the item's bin setup at that location and any lot, serial or status requirements. A bin can be empty and still be offered.
Which bin Type makes a bin an inbound staging bin?
Inbound Staging. The other Types serve other work. Outbound Staging is for picked goods waiting for packing, Picking and Storage hold stock, Vendor Returns supports vendor returns on the mobile app, WIP supports manufacturing staging where that is set up, and None is the default.
Do I need a putaway strategy for the bin to show up?
Not for choosing the first staging bin in this receiving flow. A putaway strategy decides the destination bins later, in Bin Putaway, and that page can offer fewer bins than you have Storage bins. Whether a strategy is required for that later step depends on your account and WMS process.
What are WMS Stage Direction and WMS Bin Location Type?
Bin fields that NetSuite filled in as In and Stage when the Type was saved as Inbound Staging in this account. Other accounts can show them differently. Verify the Type and your receiving setup first, and don't expect changing either field alone to put the bin on the list.
Does changing a bin's Type move or change the stock in it?
No. It changes which mobile processes consider the bin eligible. Before you reclassify a bin that holds stock, review its on-hand quantities and any open receiving, putaway, cart, pick, transfer or return work. Real storage stock belongs in a storage bin, so move it through your normal inventory process. An empty or dedicated bin is the safer one to convert.
Why does mobile say the item is not configured to use bins?
The item isn't set up to use bins at the receiving location, or its bin setup is incomplete. An administrator has to check the item's bin setting for that location. What is required depends on whether your account uses basic or advanced bin management.
Will PO Received always mean the receipt is posted?
No. The wording here fits automatic posting. With manual posting, receiving records the work and a separate step posts the item receipt.
