Pick a Lot-Controlled Item into a Pick Carton in NetSuite WMS Mobile

Pick a released sales order with one lot-controlled line on SCM Mobile: choose the lot from Available Lots, put the 15 units in a pick carton, stage the carton and read the wave's pick task as Done.

The quick answer

In the SCM Mobile app, open WMS, the warehouse and Picking > Single Order Picking > Released Orders > Sales Order, then select the order and its pick task. Confirm the bin and the item. On Enter Quantity, type the quantity, keep the inventory status Good and choose a Good lot from the lot list. Type or scan a carton on Enter Carton, enter the outbound staging bin, and read the order, carton, item and quantity on Staging Complete. On the desktop the wave reads In Progress and the pick task reads Done.

The screenshots show sample data. Person and operating-company names are fictional. Use your own records and values when following the steps.

Before you start

The account needs NetSuite WMS and the SCM Mobile app, a bin-managed warehouse, a released Single Order wave for a committed sales order, a lot-controlled item with stock in the bin, the Use cartons for single-order picking? rule turned on, an outbound staging bin, and a picker who can pick and stage. A non-lot item skips the lot field, and an account with pick cartons off skips Enter Carton.

The sequence below is the standard bin-managed, lot-controlled flow. The bin, the lots and the carton prompt shown here depend on your item's rotation setting, your pick strategy and your WMS system rules, and tally scan, serialized items, inventory status and zone picking can add or reorder screens. Page labels and columns also change with the SCM Mobile release, so match each screen by its title.

01. Check the released wave and its pick task

Open wave 241. Its status is Released, the picking type is Single Order and the location is Lakeshore Depot. Open Pick Tasks. One task for FLT-210 shows 15 Eaches(1), the recommended bin A4-02 and the status Ready. The sales order has one line, so the wave made one task.

The task is Ready before anyone picks.

02. Open Single Order Picking and select the order

Pickers normally open SCM Mobile on their device. In an account that offers it, Setup > Custom > Mobile - App opens the same app in the browser. On Select Application, choose WMS. On Select Warehouse, choose Lakeshore Depot. On Main Menu, choose Picking, then Single Order Picking. On Select Picking Mode, choose Released Orders, because the wave already created the task. On Select Order Type, choose Sales Order.

Select Order lists SO-71094 for Meadowbrook Hydraulics with 1 task. Select it.

One released order with one task.

Select Pick Task lists the task by bin, item and quantity: A4-02, FLT-210 and 15 Eaches(1). Select the task.

The task matches the Pick Tasks tab.

03. Confirm the bin and the item

Enter Bin shows the Recommended Bin, A4-02, and the quantity it holds. For a lot item the recommendation can follow first-expired-first-out when the item's rotation setting and expiry dates support it, and it also depends on availability, preferred bins and your pick strategy. Select the bin, or scan or type it and choose Enter Bin. Show all bins lists the other bins that hold the item.

Take the recommended bin unless the stock sits elsewhere.

Enter Item shows Item to Pick, FLT-210. Select it, or scan or type the item and choose Enter Item.

Confirm the item before you enter a quantity.

04. Enter the quantity and choose the lot

Enter Quantity shows Quantity Remaining, 15 Eaches(1). Type 15 and keep Inventory Status on Good. Because the item is lot tracked, the page also has a Scan/Enter Lot field and a lot list. Each row shows the lot, its expiry date when one is set, its status and the quantity on hand.

The list includes a Quarantine row for lot LT-6112. Choosing Good for the status and a Good lot keeps quarantined stock out of the order. Select LT-6107, which is Good and holds 125. Choose a lot with enough stock and a status your account allows for this order.

Pick from a Good lot with enough stock.

In the source run, choosing the lot with the full quantity already entered moved straight on to Enter Carton. If your release stays on the page, choose Enter Quantity. If a lot holds less than the quantity, enter that lot's quantity first and then pick the rest from another lot. Use Bin Empty when the bin cannot supply the quantity.

05. Put the quantity in a pick carton

Enter Carton opens because the account uses pick cartons. Used Cartons lists cartons that already hold picked items, and it is empty here because nothing has been picked for this order yet. Type or scan the carton, CTN-80412, and choose Enter Carton. A pick carton can hold several items from the same order and cannot hold items from a different order. The carton step can repeat after each quantity or lot you submit. Pick cartons identify the container during picking and staging. Ship Central pack cartons come later, when the order is packed.

Type or scan the carton for this order.

06. Stage the carton

When no pick work remains, the app can open Enter Staging Bin directly. Type the outbound staging bin, OUT-STG-A, or turn on Show all bins and select it, then choose Enter Staging Bin. Staging hands the carton to packing and shipping.

Enter the outbound staging bin.

Staging Complete confirms the staging to OUT-STG-A and lists SO-71094 in carton CTN-80412 with FLT-210 for 15 Eaches(1). The columns can vary by release and by flow.

The order, carton, item and quantity staged.

07. Check the wave

Reload wave 241 on the desktop. The wave commonly reads In Progress, and on Pick Tasks the task for FLT-210 commonly reads Done, here with the lot LT-6107 in Serial/Lot Number. Refresh the wave and verify the status, and check the lot on the task or in the fulfillment's inventory detail. The item fulfillment follows your fulfillment preference. It is usually at Picked status, or Packed when the account packs automatically, and it can take a moment to appear, so check it on the order before you hand the carton to packing.

The wave is In Progress and the task is Done.

Check the result

  1. Staging Complete listed the order, the carton, the item and the quantity of 15.
  2. The wave read In Progress and the pick task read Done after a refresh.
  3. The item fulfillment exists on the order, usually at Picked status, once WMS has processed it.

Common questions

Which rule turns on Enter Carton for single order picking?

The Use cartons for single-order picking? system rule. With it on, the app asks for a carton after the quantity, and the step can repeat after each quantity or lot you submit. With it off, the app skips the page.

Can one pick carton hold several items, and can two orders share it?

A pick carton can hold several items, and several quantities or lots of an item, from the same order. Two orders cannot share a pick carton. To keep adding to a carton during the same pick, select it from Used Cartons.

What is the difference between a pick carton and a pack carton?

A pick carton identifies the container while the picker picks and stages. A pack carton is created in Ship Central when the order is packed, and it records the contents, weight and size of what ships. Ship Central can use the pick carton to find the picked contents.

Which lot should I choose?

Choose a lot with enough stock and a status your account allows, which is Good here. Lot order and the recommended bin can reflect the item's rotation setting, such as first-expired-first-out or last-expired-first-out, and neither applies to every account. Whether expired lots appear depends on your expired-item rule, so check it before you rely on the list.

What if the lot holds less than the quantity?

Enter the quantity that the lot holds, submit it, and pick the remainder from another lot, or choose Other Bin to continue from another bin. Use Bin Empty when the selected bin cannot supply the remaining quantity.

Why does my handheld skip the lot field or the carton page?

A non-lot item has no lot field. The carton page shows only when the carton rule is on, and a location without bins skips the bin and staging pages. Tally scan, serialized items and inventory status can also add or remove screens.

When does the item fulfillment appear?

WMS creates or updates the item fulfillment according to your fulfillment preference, per order or per order line, and it can run in the background. Fully picked and staged work commonly produces a Picked fulfillment when manual packing is on, and a Packed fulfillment when the account packs automatically. Refresh the order before you decide that nothing was created. A partially picked task has to be closed or marked Done first, unless the automatic partial-pick rule does it.
