The quick answer
In SCM Mobile, open Picking > Single Order Picking > Released Orders > Sales Order, select the order, and pick the serialized task: enter the bin, confirm the item, enter the quantity, then enter the serial number. Show possible serial numbers lists the serial allocated to the order. After the last task, enter the outbound staging bin. Refresh the wave: it reads In Progress and the staged order's pick tasks read Done, and the sales order's Related Records show an Item Fulfillment at Picked whose Inventory Detail lists the serial number and the staging bin.
The screenshots show sample data. Person, company, customer, item, wave, serial number, bin and picker values are fictional examples, not results to expect in your account, and the recording is a replay of a practice account.
Before you start
You need NetSuite WMS with bins enabled, a serial-tracked item whose serial number is available in the bin you pick from, a released wave with pick tasks for the order, an outbound staging bin, and a picker who has mobile picking access to the warehouse. The sales order needs to be eligible for WMS picking: normally Pending Fulfillment, with committed quantities, the right warehouse location and no blocking hold. Serial allocation is optional for this example, but when the order or pick task contains allocated serials, WMS can restrict the selectable serials to those allocations.
Which screens appear depends on your release and settings. Cartons, tally scanning, partial quantities, bin blocking, zone picking or inventory statuses add or remove steps. When the Item Fulfillment is created, and whether it lands at Picked or Packed, depends on the Create Item Fulfillment at Locations Using Warehouse Management preference and the Manually pack orders? rule. This guide ends before packing and shipping.
01. Review the released wave
Open wave WAVE312. Its status is Released and Picking Type is Single Order. On the Pick Tasks tab, four tasks are Ready; Ready means the work exists, not that anything is picked. Two belong to SO-6104: one unit of IMP-DRV-18V, with serial number SN-48213 in Serial/Lot Number here because that serial is allocated to the order, and three of BAT-18V-4AH. The other two belong to SO-6107. Each task shows its Recommended Bin and, if task assignment is enabled, the Assigned Picker. The columns and values depend on your wave settings and release.
02. Open the order on the handheld
On the mobile device open the SCM Mobile app, choose the Northport Depot warehouse, then Picking, Single Order Picking, Released Orders and Sales Order. On Select Order, select SO-6104. Select Pick Task lists its two open tasks. The order must already belong to a released wave and have open pick tasks; labels vary by version and role.
03. Pick the serialized item
Select the IMP-DRV-18V task. On Enter Bin, enter the recommended bin A-12-04, then on Enter Item confirm IMP-DRV-18V. On Enter Quantity, enter 1 in Each. If your account uses inventory statuses, confirm the status; here it is Good. If the bin cannot supply the quantity, Bin Empty lets you report it or choose another source.
Because the item is serialized, the app opens Enter Serial Number. The page asks for one serial number per unit, so a quantity of 3 would need three. Turn on Show possible serial numbers and select SN-48213, the serial allocated to this order, if it appears, then choose Enter Serial Number. The list shows serials currently eligible for the item and the selected bin; availability, status, allocation and other WMS rules can narrow it further, and it is not every serial in the warehouse. If you enter a different serial, your allocation settings decide whether it is rejected or accepted and recorded, so test that in your account before relying on either behavior.
Pick Task Complete then confirms that the pick entry was accepted. It does not necessarily mean the task is finished; in a bin-managed warehouse a fully picked task is normally completed when its stock is staged.
04. Pick the non-serialized item
Choose Next Pick Task and select the BAT-18V-4AH task. Enter the bin A-14-02, confirm the item and enter 3 in Each. This line is not lot- or serial-controlled, so no serial screen appears unless another rule asks for one. Because no task is left on the order, the app can go straight to staging. Where tasks remain, Go To Staging on Pick Task Complete or on Select Pick Task can open the same page, depending on the flow.
05. Stage the order
On Enter Staging Bin, turn on Show all bins, select the outbound staging bin PACK-STAGE-01 and choose Enter Staging Bin. One staging action moves the picked lines selected for staging, here both lines of the order, into that bin. Your account can allow separate or partial staging. Staging Complete lists the items staged in that action.
06. Check the wave
On the desktop, reload WAVE312. In this example the status is In Progress, and on Pick Tasks the two SO-6104 tasks read Done while the two SO-6107 tasks still read Ready. The wave stays In Progress while other tasks are open or processing. If the picked tasks do not read Done yet, refresh again, because processing can lag.
07. Check the order and Item Fulfillment
Open SO-6104 and look at its related records. In this example the Related Records tab lists an Item Fulfillment at status Picked and the wave at In Progress. WMS creates or updates fulfillments according to the Create Item Fulfillment at Locations Using Warehouse Management preference, per order, per line or for the released order, so yours may be split differently or appear after background processing. The tab label and layout vary by form and release; current releases show it under a Transactions subtab.
Open the fulfillment. Here it lists both lines and has a Mark Packed button, which is the next step when manual packing is on; this guide does not use it.
Open Inventory Detail on the IMP-DRV-18V line. It shows serial number SN-48213 in bin PACK-STAGE-01, status Good, quantity 1. The bin is the staging bin because the stock now sits there. The status column appears only if your account uses inventory statuses.
Check the result
- The wave reads In Progress and the staged order's pick tasks read Done.
- The sales order's Related Records show an Item Fulfillment at Picked.
- Inventory Detail on the serialized line shows the serial number you picked and the staging bin.
Common questions
What does Show possible serial numbers do?
It displays the serial numbers currently eligible for the selected item and source bin. Availability, inventory status, order or task allocation and other WMS rules can limit the list. If the order or task has allocated serials, the list may contain only those serials.
What happens if the picker selects a serial different from the allocated one?
It depends on the account's allocation and picking controls. WMS may reject the serial, or it may let the picker use another eligible serial and record that serial on the pick and the resulting fulfillment. Do not assume either result until you have tested it in your account.
Is the pick task done when Pick Task Complete appears?
Not necessarily. The message confirms that the entered quantity and tracking details were accepted. For a bin-enabled location, a fully picked task is normally completed after the items are staged. Partial picks may need the task to be closed, or an automatic partial-pick rule.
Why is the wave still In Progress?
The wave can stay In Progress while other pick tasks are open, partially picked or still processing. In this example the other order on the wave still has Ready tasks. Fulfillment generation can also be asynchronous, but check the fulfillment-generation status separately from the pick-task status.
When is the Item Fulfillment created, and why is it Picked?
WMS creates or updates fulfillments according to the fulfillment-creation preference, per order, per line or for the released order, and the record can appear after background processing. For a bin-managed pick this commonly follows staging. A new fulfillment normally gets Picked status when Manually pack orders? is active; when that rule is inactive it can be created as Packed instead, and there is no Mark Packed step.
Why does Inventory Detail show the staging bin?
In a bin-enabled warehouse, staging transfers the picked inventory into the staging bin, so the fulfillment's inventory detail shows the serial, quantity and staging bin, plus the inventory status where statuses are enabled.
What does Mark Packed do?
It records the packing step and changes the fulfillment's status. It does not confirm shipment, carrier acceptance, tracking or a label. Those are separate steps.
