The quick answer
In SCM Mobile, open Picking > Multi - Order Picking, select the released wave and open its consolidated pick task. Confirm the bin and the item, then pick one order at a time: the Enter Quantity page names the order and its Quantity Remaining, and you enter that order's quantity, lot and, when the account asks for it, its own carton. After the last order, choose Go To Staging and enter the outbound staging bin. Staging Complete lists each order with its carton and quantity. Back on the desktop the wave reads In Progress, the task reads Done, and the order's Related Records show an Item Fulfillment at Picked. In this example its Inventory Detail carries the lot, the pick carton and the staging bin.
The screenshots show sample data. Person, company, customer, item, wave, lot, carton, bin and picker values are fictional examples, not results to expect in your account, and the recording is a replay of a practice account.
Before you start
You need NetSuite WMS with bins enabled, a lot-controlled item with eligible stock in the bin, a released wave whose Picking Type is Multiple Orders, an outbound staging bin, and a picker with mobile picking access to the warehouse. The sales orders need to be eligible for WMS picking: normally Pending Fulfillment, with committed quantities and no blocking hold, and not already in another active wave. If the app answers with a picker error when you open a task, check the employee, role, warehouse access and task assignment before anything else.
The Enter Carton page appears only when the account's rule for using cartons in multi-order picking is turned on. When the Item Fulfillment is created, and whether it lands at Picked or Packed, depends on the Create Item Fulfillment at Locations Using Warehouse Management preference and the Manually pack orders? rule. Fields, columns and button labels also vary by release and mobile configuration. This guide ends before packing and shipping.
01. Review the released wave
Open the wave record, here WAVE118. Its status is Released and Picking Type is Multiple Orders. On the Pick Tasks tab one task covers PKG-210: 44 Each from the recommended bin A1-01, status Ready. The task covers quantities for two orders that need the same item, so the release produced one consolidated task instead of one task per order. How tasks are grouped depends on wave processing, bin availability and your configuration, so your wave can split differently. Ready means the work exists; nothing has been picked yet. Columns and values on this tab vary by release, role and customization.
02. Choose multi-order picking and the wave
On the handheld open the SCM Mobile app, choose WMS and the Coastal Depot warehouse, then Picking and Multi - Order Picking. Single Order Picking is a different flow, and the exact menu path depends on your mobile configuration. On Select Wave, with Show Released Waves on, the grid lists each released wave with its Orders and Tasks counts. WAVE118 shows 2 orders and 1 task. Select it, or scan or type the wave number.
03. Open the consolidated pick task
Select Pick Task lists the wave's tasks with the item, bin, the number of orders the task serves and the combined quantity. The PKG-210 row reads A1-01, 2 orders, 44 Each. Select the task, or scan or enter its pick task number.
04. Validate the bin
On Enter Bin the page shows the recommended bin A1-01 and the quantity there. The recommendation comes from bin sorting, available quantity, preferred-bin settings and any pick strategy. For lot-numbered items, bin sorting can use the item's FEFO or LEFO rotation setting; it is not a universal first-expiry-first-out rule. Turn on Show all bins to see the other bins holding PKG-210, then select A1-01 (or scan it). If the selected bin cannot supply the quantity, use Bin Empty or continue from another bin. On Enter Item, confirm PKG-210.
05. Pick the first order
Enter Quantity names the order you are picking for, SO-70412, and its Quantity Remaining, 18 Each. The app decides each order's share; you cannot reallocate one order's quantity to another. Confirm the unit, enter 18, then enter or select the lot. The available lots list shows the lot, its expiry date, status and quantity. Choose LOT-2411-A with status Good. Good is an example inventory status and appears only where inventory statuses are in use. If one lot cannot cover the quantity, enter what it can supply and repeat for another lot.
Continue to Enter Carton and enter CTN-31. A pick carton holds items for one order only, so the next order needs a different carton, and a carton that already holds another order's items is rejected. The same carton can take more items for the same order.
06. Pick the second order
The next Enter Quantity page names SO-70413 with 26 Each remaining. Enter 26, select LOT-2411-A again, and enter CTN-47 as its carton. The same lot can serve both orders here because it has enough eligible stock, and WMS records it against each order separately. When the last order is done, Pick Task Complete confirms the task. Depending on what work remains it offers Go To Staging or Next Pick Task.
07. Stage the picked items
Choose Go To Staging. If an order has more than one pick task, finish the tasks you want staged together first. On Enter Staging Bin turn on Show all bins, select the outbound staging bin OUT-STG-01 and choose Enter Staging Bin. Staging Complete names the bin and, in this example, lists each order with its carton, the item and the quantity: SO-70412 in CTN-31 with 18, SO-70413 in CTN-47 with 26. The cartons list summarizes order-specific cartons; it does not merge them, and what the page shows can differ by release and configuration. Large tasks can stage in the background, so do not retry the step if the page is slow.
08. Check the wave and the fulfillment
On the desktop, reload WAVE118. In this example the status is In Progress and the task reads Done on the Pick Tasks tab. Serial/Lot Number shows the lot picked. The wave can stay In Progress for several reasons: other tasks are still open, fulfillment generation is still processing, or a line failed. Packing and shipping come later, so refresh the wave and check the fulfillment-generation status before treating a delay as an error.
Open SO-70412 and its Related Records. This example lists an Item Fulfillment at Picked and the wave at In Progress. Whether a fulfillment exists yet, and whether it is one per order, per line or grouped another way, depends on the fulfillment preference and processing, so confirm it in your account. Current releases show the list under a Transactions or Related Records subtab.
Open the fulfillment and its Inventory Detail for PKG-210. In this example it shows lot LOT-2411-A in bin OUT-STG-01, status Good, Pick Carton CTN-31 and quantity 18. The bin is the staging bin because the stock now sits there, and Pack Carton stays empty until packing. The lot, status, quantity and staging bin are what Inventory Detail is for; where your account records the pick carton can differ by release and customization.
Check the result
- Staging Complete lists each order with its own carton and quantity.
- The wave reads In Progress and the picked task reads Done.
- The order's Related Records show an Item Fulfillment at Picked.
- Inventory Detail shows the lot, the quantity and the staging bin.
Common questions
How is multi-order picking different from single-order picking?
Single-order picking processes the tasks of one order at a time, so the picker can visit the same bin once per order. Multi-order picking processes similar items for several orders in one released wave: the app shows one order's quantity at a time and records each order's quantity, lot and carton separately. Task structure depends on wave generation and configuration. The wave's Picking Type decides which flow applies.
Why does a two-order wave show only one pick task?
The wave was released with the Multiple Orders picking type, which lets similar item requirements from several orders be processed together. Whether the release combines or separates tasks depends on wave processing, bin availability and configuration. Two orders needing the same item from the same bin does not by itself guarantee one task.
Can one pick carton hold items for two orders?
No. A pick carton is tied to one order. It can hold several items for that order, but a carton that already holds another order's items is rejected, and a carton generally has to be packed before it can be reused. The Staging Complete cartons list summarizes the order-specific cartons and does not merge them.
Why doesn't my account ask for a carton?
The page appears only when the WMS rule Use cartons for multi-order picking? is on for the process. With the rule off, the order's quantity and lot are recorded without a carton and the flow goes straight on. A partial pick or a different branch of the mobile process can also change the screen sequence, so a missing page does not mean carton support is unavailable in the account.
What does Bin Empty do?
It reports that the selected bin cannot supply the quantity still needed, so you continue from another bin or move to other work and the pick becomes a partial pick. It does not quietly shorten the order, and it is different from No Stock, which applies to non-bin locations. Bin blocking rules can add a reason step. A partial pick does not automatically create an Item Fulfillment; the task may need to be closed or marked Done.
Does staging always create an Item Fulfillment at Picked?
No. WMS creates or updates fulfillments according to the Create Item Fulfillment at Locations Using Warehouse Management preference, per order, per line or another grouping, and the record can appear after background processing. A new fulfillment normally gets Picked status when Manually pack orders? is on; when that rule is off it can be created as Packed, with no separate packing step.
Why does Inventory Detail show the staging bin?
In a bin-enabled warehouse, staging moves the picked stock from the source bin into the staging bin, so the fulfillment's inventory detail can show the lot, the status, the quantity and the staging bin. In this example the pick carton you entered also appears in the Pick Carton column and Pack Carton stays empty until packing; the carton is a handling reference, not the stock's location, and where your account records it can differ.
What if the lot or bin cannot cover the quantity?
Enter what the selected lot, status and bin can supply, then use Other Bin or pick the remainder from another lot. If a bin cannot provide more, use Bin Empty; do not use it to skip stock that is there. The resulting partial pick does not necessarily generate an Item Fulfillment, and the task may need to be closed.
Why is there no Item Fulfillment right after staging?
Fulfillment generation can run in the background, especially for larger waves. Refresh the wave and the order, then check the fulfillment-generation status and any failed pick-task lines. A missing fulfillment straight after staging does not mean the staging failed.
