The quick answer
In WMS Mobile, choose Receiving → Purchase Order, select the serialized PO line, enter the quantity, provide one distinct serial for each serialized base unit, and choose an eligible inbound staging bin. After the mobile task completes, check the PO’s Related Records → Receipts & Bills and open its posted Item Receipt. In this example, receipt IR-74189 records serial SER-24018, bin INB-01, Good status, and quantity 1.
The screenshots use sample data and fictional person and operating-company names. They show a partial receipt: the serialized drive is received while a second PO line stays open.
Before you start
Use an approved purchase order in an eligible receiving state, such as Pending Receipt, at the selected WMS warehouse. The serialized line must still have receivable quantity. This example uses a direct PO receipt at Northline Depot; an outsourced, drop-ship, special-order, closed or inbound-shipment line may need a different process. Confirm the PO number, item and warehouse before scanning or typing a serial. The item must be configured as serialized inventory, the warehouse must use bins, and the receiving role needs the relevant permissions. Inventory Status must be enabled and Good available for that item and location to show the status used here.
The account shown has Manually post item receipts? off and Stage received items before putting away? on. With manual posting enabled, completing the mobile task does not itself create a saved Item Receipt; use the account’s configured posting process before checking the transaction. The inbound bin must be eligible for staging. Labels and screens can differ by role, form and WMS rules.
01. Check the purchase order
Open PO-74182 on the desktop. Its Items list shows DRV-220 handheld drive ordered for 1 Each with 0 received, and ADP-110 power adapter ordered for 3 Each with 0 received. Only the drive is serialized in this walkthrough. The PO’s total ordered quantity is not the serial count for the drive line.
02. Select the serialized line in WMS Mobile
Open Receiving → Purchase Order in the configured mobile app and scan or select PO-74182. On Enter Item, choose DRV-220. Its remaining quantity is 1 Each; the adapter has 3 Each remaining.
03. Enter the quantity and serial
On Enter Quantity, keep inventory status Good, enter 1 Each, and submit. Enter Serial Number then asks for one serial. Type or scan SER-24018 and submit it. For a larger serialized quantity, enter a distinct valid serial for each base unit; do not reuse a serial already in a conflicting on-hand state.
04. Choose the inbound staging bin
On Enter Bin, select INB-01 and submit. The bin is the inbound staging location in this account. This receiving step does not confirm putaway to the final storage bin.
05. Check completed and open lines
Back on Enter Item, turn on Show Completed. The completed list shows DRV-220 with 1 Each received and 0 remaining. ADP-110 is still open with 0 received and 3 Each remaining. This mobile list confirms the warehouse task’s state; it is not, by itself, proof that an accounting Item Receipt posted.
06. Find the posted Item Receipt
Wait for automatic posting, then refresh PO-74182 on the desktop. In this example its status is Pending Billing/Partially Received, and the drive line has received quantity 1 while the adapter remains outstanding. Status wording can vary. Open Related Records → Receipts & Bills and select linked Item Receipt IR-74189. This is the receipt observed here; posting rules can group lines or create a different number of receipts. Check the actual receipt lines. If no receipt appears, check the manual posting rule, processing delay or posting failure before treating the mobile completion as a posted transaction.
07. Verify the saved serial detail
On IR-74189, find the DRV-220 line and select View in Inventory Detail. The saved detail shows SER-24018, INB-01, Good, and quantity 1. Compare those values with the mobile entry and the receiving paperwork. The receipt records what the account saved; it does not independently prove which physical unit arrived or that putaway is complete.
Check the result
- The saved Item Receipt links back to the intended PO.
- Its serialized line shows one distinct serial assignment for the one unit received.
- The adapter line remains open; staging is separate from putaway.
Common questions
Why does WMS Mobile ask for a serial after I enter quantity?
The item is serialized, so the received quantity needs matching serial assignments. This example receives one base unit and enters one serial.
Can I receive one serialized line while another PO line stays open?
Yes, when the PO and WMS rules allow a partial receipt. In this walkthrough, the drive is received and the adapter still has 3 Each remaining.
Why is there no Item Receipt after the mobile task finishes?
Check whether Manually post item receipts? is enabled for your WMS process. If so, follow the configured Post Item Receipt step. Otherwise, confirm the task completed and whether automatic posting is still processing or failed. Receipt grouping can also differ by account, so check the PO’s actual linked records.
Where do I verify the serial after posting?
Open the linked saved Item Receipt, find the serialized line and view its Inventory Detail, if the form and role expose it. Match the serial and quantity to the received line.
Does the inbound bin mean putaway is finished?
No. INB-01 is a staging bin in this example. Final-bin putaway is a separate warehouse action.
Why does the receipt show INB-01 rather than the final storage bin?
With staging enabled, the receipt records the inbound bin used at receiving. Putaway from that bin to a storage bin is a later workflow.
Why might the number of receipt lines differ from the mobile list?
WMS posting can group received lines according to the account’s rules. Open each linked saved receipt and check its actual lines instead of assuming one mobile line always produces one receipt.
